These are not rules, but are courtesies that people have come to expect from one another, and SHOULD try to apply in their playing.

Activation

  • Some chars may be too weak to handle what you can. Popping seals in the Chaos Sanctuary, when people are not ready for it, can and usually does produce lag for people with worse systems than yours. Just because you can handle having Lord De Seis and his mob released right on top of you DOES NOT mean others can or should be able to do likewise. This may also apply to fighting Baal.

    Tags

  • Tagging your name to the variant you're playing is a courtesy and a friendly reminder to other folks which variant you are playing. A tag informs your cooper the rules and restrictions you are under so others can take appropriate precaution and understand why you talk/act a certain way (don't take you for a jerk when you are role playing a BRAG, for example). Likewise, it will help you to be a better person to coop with if you have a good knowledge of all the variants out there. This does not mean you should know all the variants by heart but it's recommended to at least skim as much as you can; if only the ones you meet often. Ask what they are about if you are unsure.

    Quests and Quest Items

  • Someone may choose to keep a quest item.
  • Someone might want to bring in a mule for the cube.
  • Wait for the person if he/she dropped. You can always do some leveling in other areas.
  • When convenient, start new games with mules leaving all quests open for people who join later.

If you're killing much faster than your partners, don't go killing everything in sight and leave your partner nothing to do, unless your assistance is needed and asked for. This does not show you are a good player. It shows your character is over powered. What to do? Tone down your skills. Use a less powerful skill, go to a harder area. etc.

    Item Division

  • All drops are shared and go to the most appropriate character in the game.(For example, don't keep an assassin's claws that dropped if your character, IN THE GAME, is a barbarian and there is an assassin in the game). All class specific items should go to that class, if not wanted, sell or keep for yourself, or just leave it on the ground.
  • Just because you hosted the game does not mean every drop in the game rightly belongs to you.
  • If there is more than one char doing the quest for the first time, then drops should be divided as most appropriate to class among those 'questers'.

    CO-OP

  • We like to play together - even when we are starting a new character needing all quests in normal act 1, we would join a normal game in process anyway to see who is in game. Usually, people already in game would gladly wrap up at a convenient stopping point and join a new game you host so you can get your quests.

  • Don't steal. If you see an item you like lying on the ground, ask first to see if anyone wants to keep the item, if not, its yours to do whatever you wish to.
  • Dueling- When dueling, wait for everyone in the game to wrap up what quests and things they need done BEFORE you declare hostile on anyone, because once you declare hostile all portals in game close and some people may still need them.
  • Lag- If someone lags out of your game, wait a reasonable amount of time before completing any quests they might have been working on with you. Also, if they do not rejoin, pick up any items they may have left and keep them in case they still want these items. For a time limit, assume they had to reboot and are using a slow machine.
  • When a person joins a game, invite them into your party.
  • If you join a pre-existing game and plan to clear a section of the game that has not been already cleared, ask the players in the game whether they mind if you clear that section. If they do not want you to clear this area then don't.
  • Do not repeatedly beg or badger any person for equipment.
  • Give a warning to your fellow players when you are about to do something that you know will cause excessive lag, or activate a swarm of monsters that you don't think you, or them, can handle.
  • If you are offered something particularly good by a vendor and you don't want it, announce what it is in case others would like to purchase it.
  • At the end of acts, let people pick out what items they want that were left lying around. After everyone is finished, help clean up and sell all the rest, don't just leave 1 or 2 people to do it.
