Wizards.exe location 5C02D has a value of 03 for the current allowed distance of 3 squares between towns. Reducing distance (which i never used and think it would be far too cluttered with shared land) is changing than number down to 2
Increasing required distance, reducing number of allowable cities and speeding game up as a result is changing the value to 4. This can impact the AI designed for the default distance rule but not severely when i tried it. I personally like this option to limit sprawl a bit while having worlds that have less water.
Warning: This is a pretty major change to gameplay, how AI spreads out, and overall game progression. It has the potential to unbalance pace of research , game stages, and sone miscellaneous individual concepts.
