Quick combat only - which setup wins?

I wonder what would be the best starting picks/strategy if only quick combat were allowed. Any hints? Of course you would have to take different strategies against raiders into account - you might lose battles you would win in real combat.

Well, the obvious choice is using things with high combat stats and no abilities, or abilities overrated by the system. As losing units is unlikely on battles won with a large enough advantage, and dispelling not being a factor, barbarians buffed by life spells is probably a good choice.
Focus magic cockatrices might work well too, as one of those has a quick combat value comparable to a rare summon and they don't take as much damage as usual, you can let them fight each turn.
