Epic Five : Results

OK, the Results page is up on the site as well. It sure was nice having all the names in this thread, even without the links, because I knew who I was looking for. thumbsup

The graph is great, but this time I chose not to include it on the page because it's an unscored event. Interested parties should still be able to find it here, I hope. smile

Now that I don't have a month+ of results hanging over my head, I can't wait to relax and read Adv9 reports next week! read

Gris, I don't mean to complain, but... can we please have a list that states the victory type and date of finish for each player in the results section? I have in mind something like the list for Adventure Two (also an unscored event). (http://realmsbeyond.net/civ/c4tourney/adv2results.html)

Of course Epic Five was an unscored event, but at the least I'd hope we could post how everyone finished and at what date. It's extremely awkward to be forced to dig through old forum threads for this information. I don't care about rankings or anything like that, but the results pages are most helpful when they summarize in clear and concise fashion the outcome of each player. A list of names in no particular order does not convey very much information.

Believe me, I appreciate all the work that goes into maintaining this site. If you would like some more help with processing the results, I would be happy to help. smile

I'm afraid that's been partially my fault. While I still feel in charge of collecting results, I hadn't done so for the last few Epics/Adventures because there had been made a list by somebody else a few days after report day anyway (I do this on the weekend following report day usually). My lists I had sent to Gris in previous events had always included the data you wanted. I already got confused which event still needs scoring to do and which not, so I feel a bit guilty for not having done the lists for the few past events, sorry. frown

I will collect and send Griselda results for the upcoming events now again, even if there will be (partial) lists made by others in the forum. Gris, do you want me to do full lists for the last events that have no finishing dates/victory types listed on the main site?

Kylearan,

If you wouldn't mind locating that information for the last couple of games, that would be great, but if you'd prefer to wait until the next one closes, I could probably add it myself for those I've just compiled.

I guess I've been unsure of how much information I should put in the unscored games. On the one hand, it's nice to have everybody unranked and on an equal footing, but it does make it harder for readers to pick out games that may be of interest to them. You can see in the Civ3 Epics that I started with more information and gradually went to less, but I'd be happy to go back the other way if that's what people wanted- so long as we're still sensitive to the fact that it's an unscored game. I really appreciate having the feedback so that it's not just me making executive decisions in a vacuum.

The results on the forum have been very helpful, but they're not the same as the official results in a lot of ways. There are comparisons that are interesting and informative as a discussion between players that might not have the same tone if they were a final compilation presented by the site itself. In my mind, that's the difference between comparing notes among peers and being ranked by an external tournament 'staff'. Does that make sense?

The player-compiled results often tend to include comparisons that, for official purposes, need to be considered shadow games. This isn't just mods, but also late reports and the like. So, the results on the forum can't substitute for the final results on the site. They do facilitate discusison, and make it easier for readers (and results compilers!) to access the information, but I think that they're different things.

I'll do that then in a couple of days. smile

Personally, I'd like to have victory type and finish date listed, but the list ordered alphabetically (and not split into victory types).

A gentle bump before the Adventure Ten results start coming in tomorrow. Any movement on the Epic Four/Epic Five results? Again, I'll be happy to put them in an html table if desired. smile

I'm on it, and Gris will have them tomorrow. Sorry for the delay, I'm a bit busy at the moment and didn't realize the need for the results was so pressing.
