I'm playing as a shadow, because I left in place my custom font edits that weren't yet approved for this game. I started playing Epic Six only about a week before the deadline, and so planned to just play the opening up to a position of control, and then let it go. So I figured what the heck, just leave the better-looking fonts there. But the game became compelling (and quick) enough that I had to see it through...

I love the character of this report: it's not often you see Muskets get such a long shelf-life. And using an Oracle slingshot on Education -- even on Noble that is something just shy of amazing.

Dang...an Education pop from The Oracle . I'd been trying that with Elizabeth on the Earth 18 civs map for some time, but someone (usually Hatty) always builds it aournd 1040 B.C. I've never see that wonder fall in A.D. times, pretty amazing!
<checks what Civ III, Epic XIV was>
Yeah, that does look fun 8).

Quite a beeline there - Military Tradition before Currency or Construction? I don't think we'll see that again soon.
Also a very creative solution to the problem of reaching the northern islands: going around the naval blockade with a settler and a chopped galley! Well done.

@ the chopped galley in the new city and @ the way to locate Smolensk.
Frankly I had thought you'd revolt to Hinduism immediately after taking Madrid and that that would have been the reason to keep the city. I was sort of expecting that clou - Yours was better and more analitycal.

Heh, I really just backed into that plan after noticing the AIs weren't building the Oracle. How would one go about actually trying to do that? I see this plan: build Stonehenge (or a temple and hire a priest), use the Prophet to lightbulb Theology, research Paper, and then you could Oracle for Education. And Elizabeth would certainly be your woman for the job. Paper's an expensive research target, though, twice as much as Code of Laws for the "regular" slingshot. Can't use a second or third Prophet for Paper, as he'll lightbulb Code of Laws or Philosophy instead, and you can't block those off because Priesthood is required for the Oracle. The only other Great Person with any chance to lightbulb Paper is a Merchant (obtainable by the Colossus or Great Lighthouse), but he's also got the problem of getting Code of Laws out of the way.
There's also a double-slingshot plan to get Macemen early. Research Metal Casting, Oracle for Machinery, research Code of Laws (avoid Masonry), and use the Great Prophet from the Oracle for Civil Service. You'd have to fill in Iron Working too for the iron, but you can prebuild for the macemen while doing that by queueing up axemen.

I did consider it, but didn't want to lose the state religion benefits from Judaism in my core. It wasn't hard to work out city locations in the fog from several tiles away, by the shape of the cultural borders, so the line of sight wasn't all that important. In hindsight, I should have revolted to spot all the cities, and then just gone back to Judaism. That would've tipped me off thirty turns earlier that we'd need boats to reach an offshore island, and saved well more than the two turns of anarchy in the end.

There was a deep slingshot thread in Apolyton on the topic. You outline the general tact I was taking, although I was going for another Great Scientist to lightbulb Paper (it is quite high on his preference list). I obsessed on this for some time before giving up. I actually got it once, but only after using the worldbuilder to erase Hatty's Marble
