Epic 11 - Kylearan's report

Hi,

my report is not yet complete, but I have decided to upload the first three and a half pages anyway, up until 1502AD plus a teaser, after taking a quick look at the forum. After reading my report, you may know why. lol Click here for my report.

The rest will be posted tomorrow.

EDIT: Full report is up now. Enjoy!

Get out of my head! That's about the fourth time you've predicted a game plan of mine. lol Anyway, right you are. I was all ready to chastise you for not thinking through the Great Lighthouse item. The mechanics for the coastal wonder attempt are totally different and much more favorable in Civ 4. But then I saw Philadelphia's location and instantly figured out what you did. Nicely slow rolled! wink Wow, I was surprised anybody recalled my attempt at Civ 3 Epic 11, much less someone who didn't even play that event. (It wasn't done after the fact, it was a real game, I just reported it late so as not to distract from the real reports.)

Regarding the later game, that many wars does sound like a real drag. I avoided them by first simply joining the largest religious bloc, then later cranking military nonstop to keep a prohibitive power advantage. Anyway, our scores will come out extremely close -- I look forward to the rest of your report!

Great game and great report. I could see my whole game going the way yours did after 1502. Way to stick it out and fight to the end.

I must say that I felt exactly the same way about the wars with the AI. I was shocked by the quality and frequency of the AI attacks. Between the multiple AIs attacking on multiple fronts and chasing scoring goals that were the exact opposite of military buildup, this event certainly made Prince level challenging.

And way to nab the G. Lighthouse too. Mmmm...tasty red herringggg.

You're game confirmes that I was rightfully scared in my game. My powerrating was at around 25% of the top 3 AI so I too felt the constant danger of being attacked.
The way you got treated is absurd though. Were there any posibilities of igniting a war between two AI's so they would burn some units before attacking you?

Great report and congrats on your Great Lighthouse.

No, most of the time not. Not adopting a state religion and having to refuse lots of "cancel deals" and "help me in war" demands meant I never had good relations with anyone except Alex (for some time, at least). Most AIs simply didn't like me enough to be bribed to attack someone, the AIs that mattered at least, or they told me "I have nothing to gain".

By the way, what I forgot to mention in my report was that Toku was by far the tech leader and most powerful AI in the end. He had tanks very early, earlier than in many monarch games I've seen!, and had he decided to attack anyone, that civ would have had Serious Problems™. Including me!

i've been working on some thoughts about that, since i never once earned a -you cancelled deals with us penalty with any AI that mattered to me. i remember someone hoping that Kodii reported, since he's good at diplomacy. i know i enjoy reading his SGs but i can't remember atm his diplomatic style, i'm sure i'm not as good. i am sure i handled things differently than many did during this event. i know my good results were partly from luck but i'm convinced they were partly from choices i made that others likely didn't consider at all. i think i'm gonna put that in sulla's thread. you might want to take a look, but it's not there yet.
