Liberalism in 1220
Zara dead in the 18th century
Game malfunction prevents me from finishing. The game just gets stuck on 1760, when I hit end turn the globe spins and then I get a "do you want to send a report" message and the game crashes.
So, Potluck, Epic 13. It is a fractal with the only rule being no war b4 1000BC. I get the Native Americans, now for all the complaining that people do about the name of this civ (who really cares? They could be the Zorgians for all it matters to me) this is a fun civ to play, they have a great UB (totem pole + xp. to archery units) and a situational UU.
![[Image: civ4screenshot0000uu5.jpg]](http://img108.imageshack.us/img108/3894/civ4screenshot0000uu5.jpg)
My game plan for this civ would have been Bronze Working first followed by hunting to Archery, then to Myscticism. I would have slaved a barracks and then 4 Dog Soldiers (they need no resources!) and then taken my nearest neighbor's capital when she/he still had only warriors, in the mean time I would have made a totem pole in the cap and then 2 archers. With the two archers I would have choked the next nearest neighbor. What is not commonly known is that while the AI (automated workers too) function under a choke now they do not yet recognize that some 1 move units can (with the right promotions and right terrain) be 2 move units, so my hills 2 archers would have been able to steal/delete AI workers left and right (gotta love the totem pole!) (this AI deficiency may or may not get ironed out in patch). Obviously following this ultra early aggression i would have used the Philosophical trait to pull myself out of the economic hole and clean up the choked rival at my leisure. Hell of a a game plan right? No doubt it is, unfortuantely the no war before 1000BC really puts a crimp into that strat. The Native American civ has the perfect UB/UU AND traits for the ultra early rush, but now I can't take advantage of it!
. By 1000BC my dog soldiers will be facing archers in my neighbor's cities. While dog soldiers rock melee units, they are terrible at taking archer defended cities. My hills 2 archer choke will still work, but will be much less effective. Earlier these archers would have been able to leave the defensive terrain to pillage a bit, but by 1000BC the best they can hope to do is prevent the AI from further improving it's land. This is all just terribly disappointing, I know snuffing the AI in the cradle is too easily done, but man this Civ is practically DESIGNED for just that! If I was the Dutch/Portugese I would have just built up a nice empire and tech lead and then rolled everyone up with superior firepower. With the Native Americans I am denied use of my UU and UB and one of my traits (UB synergy). Ugh I am playing with the Philosophical trait and 2 starting techs neither of which is that great (fishing & agriculture). So looks like i will have to build up til at least Catapults.
I start with 3 floodplain, an oasis and and a grassland cows. This is a below average, but ok. I would rather have 2 food resources than the flood plains, but oh well. since I am building first, I will go AH first and worker first.
Turn 2 I pop Mining from a Hut! Sweet!
![[Image: civ4screenshot0001wd9.jpg]](http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/1213/civ4screenshot0001wd9.jpg)
Turn 8 Mein Gott! I pop bronze working too! What is that we say around RB... it is better to be lucky than good?
. Did I mention I have copper in the Captial, too bad I can't rush...
![[Image: civ4screenshot0002ij6.jpg]](http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/6873/civ4screenshot0002ij6.jpg)
Tunr 13 I meet Zara YourMama. Wow, is he close, man, when you have neighbors that are creative or protective you REALLY want to kill them quickly. By the time I get around to killing this joker all his cities will have 40% defense. There will be absolutely no war until Construction now.
Turn 17 Writing Next, I want an ULTRA early Academy since I am locked into a builder's game for at least 200 or so turns.
Turn 26 meet Pacal 2.
Turn 40 Meet the Dutch Dude
Turn 55 I meet the Justinian who says "live long and prosper"? Is this dude really Spock or Leonard Nimoy?
I have been getting Open Border requests from everyone, I am agreeing to those from civs far from me, but Zara & Pacal get denied.
And found my second city
![[Image: civ4screenshot0003ab6.jpg]](http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/7069/civ4screenshot0003ab6.jpg)
Turn 77 I found my 3rd city and meet Hammurabi.
![[Image: civ4screenshot0004fw7.jpg]](http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/7021/civ4screenshot0004fw7.jpg)
Tunr 89 I meet the Khmer-liens (did this guy fly in on a UFO or something?).
Turn 100 With Marble nearby and me playing a builder game with a Phil. civ, I think the Great Library is only prudent. At this time I make the adjustment to make Zara the target of my all my espionage points.
Turn 107 I get the first great person and make an academy. wow I am not used to Epic, probably too much MP civ on Quick speed
. I think this is a pretty quick academy (I think this is the first great person of the game, so even quicker than the Stonehenge Prophet)
![[Image: civ4screenshot0005cs7.jpg]](http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/3373/civ4screenshot0005cs7.jpg)
Turn 118 4th city- I found my fourth city, this city will Rock, but first I have to clear all the jungle. That is why i am take a slight detour to IW away from my beeline to Literature.
![[Image: civ4screenshot0006uj7.jpg]](http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/9933/civ4screenshot0006uj7.jpg)
Turn 134- Second Academy in 2nd city
![[Image: civ4screenshot0007ej7.jpg]](http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/811/civ4screenshot0007ej7.jpg)
Turn 137 -5th city
![[Image: civ4screenshot0008sk9.jpg]](http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/3628/civ4screenshot0008sk9.jpg)
Turn 166 Captial get the Great Library, any Native American player that fails to nab this wonder was really slacking, I mean Philosophical AND marble just screams Great Library
![[Image: civ4screenshot0010sg5.jpg]](http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/4199/civ4screenshot0010sg5.jpg)
![[Image: civ4screenshot0010sg5.a21dfc1afa.jpg]](http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/4199/civ4screenshot0010sg5.a21dfc1afa.jpg)
Turn 174- I have plenty of good land to expand into, and so am really playing a builder game up to this point and probably will continue to do so til I run out of land. I just landed the free artist at music and will use him on a Golden Age.
![[Image: civ4screenshot0011lo6.jpg]](http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/5508/civ4screenshot0011lo6.jpg)
Turn 176- I trade Aesthetics to Pacal for Priesthood and monarchy and use my Golden Age to make a painless civics switch. As all the Native Amer. players know by now I really need calendar, so even though some AIs have it I will research it too.
Turn 180- I figure what the hell, why not, so I grab this bad boy
![[Image: civ4screenshot0014ad6.jpg]](http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/7953/civ4screenshot0014ad6.jpg)
Turn 206- I do this classic manuever
![[Image: civ4screenshot0016uc4.jpg]](http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/9398/civ4screenshot0016uc4.jpg)
Turn 213- I have filled out my land
![[Image: civ4screenshot0018lp6.jpg]](http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/5273/civ4screenshot0018lp6.jpg)
![[Image: civ4screenshot0018lp6.15998772a3.jpg]](http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/5273/civ4screenshot0018lp6.15998772a3.jpg)
and want some more, Time to build up to take out Zara,
Turn 257- Just look at the relations b/w Pacal (tech leader) and Zara (pic did not take
) but they were +16, if i start a war with one, i will have to fight both. I don't want to do that. i want to fight them seperately, so i will pause my army building and whip in some markets/forges/courthouses so I can fall back on a builder's plan. Aggression will have to wait until free religion is adopted by of these jokers.
Turn 267 (1220AD) I land Liberalism and take Nationalism, I really wanted to take Astro, but could not wrangle a decent trade for Optics in time and did not want to delay
![[Image: civ4screenshot0019bw7.jpg]](http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/3573/civ4screenshot0019bw7.jpg)
Turn 272- It looks like war has come to me, whether I wanted it or not.
![[Image: civ4screenshot0021ns5.jpg]](http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/2703/civ4screenshot0021ns5.jpg)
Turn 284-
![[Image: civ4screenshot0022ri8.jpg]](http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/4941/civ4screenshot0022ri8.jpg)
Turn 319- Peace with Zara, he has been banished to the Tundra to be cleaned up at a later date.
Turn 339-Declare on Zara again
Turn 345- Pacal declares war on me. *sigh War with him was coming no matter what, but my units are primarily in the south cleaning up Zara.
Turn 346- Zara is done! Pacal is next
![[Image: civ4screenshot0024ew3.jpg]](http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/8411/civ4screenshot0024ew3.jpg)
![[Image: civ4screenshot0024ew3.1f7809ef26.jpg]](http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/8411/civ4screenshot0024ew3.1f7809ef26.jpg)
Turn 356- I get that event where you can get peace, I take it, I don't really have the army for an invasion yet. I so I take peace and decided to get some infra in former Ethiopian lands since they lack libraries, forges, etc.
Turn 390 (1760AD)- I can't get past this turn, I reload from saves, autosaves, reboot, clear the cache etc. I cant get the game to go past that turn. This has happened to me a handful of times before, but never on this computer. I think I would have had a space victory in the 19th Centruy since I had just about finished Rocketry when I got this stupid malfunction.
