Epic Sixteen: Preliminary Results

OK, compiling these results took a little work, but here they are:

The one place where there was some confusion concerned the score doubling bonus. This read in the scenario description: "DOUBLE your final score if you abstained from declaring war throughout the whole game." I intended this to be a victory bonus awarded at the end of each game, but I saw several players including it in their tallies even for retired (incomplete) games.

After giving the matter some careful consideration, I ultimately decided that incomplete games are not eligible for these bonus points. I cannot assume that an unfinished game would have been one in which the player avoided declaring war. It's not enough to say "well, I wasn't planning on declaring war" - I can't guess what might happen in the future! I apologize if this sounds like nitpicking, but I believe it's the most fair way to handle things. The wording in the scenario description should have been clearer, and that was my fault (although partly a product of this game's replacement status).

Compromise should be getting his score doubled, but I'm not handing out extra points to someone who suffered a diplo LOSS! Fortunately, he did such a damn good job of sharing the sushi love, it's irrelevant to the outcome of the competition (he comes in first either way). wink

Congratulations to all of our participants. I'd like to give special recognition though to LKendter, who turned in an outstanding second-place finish! thumbsup

Now *this* is an interesting scoring system: the fastest finisher finishes lowest (among complete games) and the highest score goes to a loser! lol

Well played, LK!

The fact that Compromise won without a game victory and without getting a game doubler is pretty insane. And no final Sushi bonus points either... Congrats!

It was a really fun game. I'm glad I played it.

Well I am shocked that I got fastest space race. With diversions such a flight to help the Gilgamesh war I spent a ton of time being delayed. Plus I didn't want to launch until I had all of his cities.

If I just thought about executives to other civs I could have had first place...

Now I have to wait for another game I want to play. Immortal is way beyond me...

Uh oh... If Immortal is way beyond LKendter, I don't know how much hope the rest of us mere mortals have. I actually haven't had a chance to look at that game yet since I am in exile at a friend's house. But I am very, very curious...

Hi,

I'd like to support you on this - it makes the most sense this way. But it makes me even more angry that I didn't have the time to finish; otherwise I would have won... ah no, not really. Compromise's game was clearly better. thumbsup

Thanks for a fun event! I hope you will be forced to come up with more games on short notice in the future if something like this is the result... lol

On the the scoring info page, the doubling of the score for non-war games makes no mention that this is only available for winning games. Why do the losing games score in some areas and not others? In the interests of fairness and not changing the scoring system after the games have finished, I think the losing non-war games should have their points doubled. The unfinished ones too, since everyone has the right to resign and hence have a completed, non-war game. I remember unfinished games in the It's A Wonderfull Life game were scored despite the games not being completed after all the wonders were built.
