Imperium 26 Report and Notes from the Sponsor

Okay, so the notes from the sponsor will have to wait, as I start work in a few minutes, but my report has now been posted in the usual place! It's not as humorous as most of my previous reports - I've mentioned once before that I like experimenting with different styles as I write these - but it's relatively short (relatively) for a RefSteel report and might have the highest picture-to-text ratio of any of my reports to date. I hope you enjoy it! Notes from the Obviously Insane Sponsor will be added below when I have an opportunity. (Hopefully later today.)

Heh, NPG and Fusion bombs. I don't think I have ever built any of those in my past 30 games. Still too new to figure out how to make ships small enough to carry these and use them effectively in battle. Nice game.

Uh, did I say I was going to post some notes? Like, from a sponsor-type individual? Then it might have been useful if I'd remembered to go ahead and do so!

The concept for this Imperium was pretty simple, and as soon as I saw our lovely backyard (and a decent-sized FERTILE second world) with no ART worlds nearby, I was sure I had the right setup for a not-too-extreme Imperium. True, we didn't have IER or RW80 in our tree, but that's not crippling for non-Meklar races, so I figured that wasn't a problem. So I sent the files off to Gris, and played on, only to discover we had NO waste reduction or cleanup techs until Complete Eco Restoration and ... Industrial Waste Elimination, I think. Um. Oops? Fortunately, it didn't turn out to be as frustrating as I feared - it just added another wrinkle to the game.

Not really much more to say about this one (unless there was something I forgot). Our next Imperium is sponsored by Horist, and will hopefully be posted sometime tonight (probably after I lose 'net access) - I'll post its thread, with either a link to the official page or the game information in-forum, sometime tomorrow. And of course you can watch for it on the official Realms Beyond Orion page or Imperium games page.

And in other news...

I love, love, LOVE Neutron Pellet Guns. Fusion bombs are great too, but especially for Alkari, but nothing has a useful lifetime in the neighborhood of NPGs'. You'll notice by the endgame, I had switched over to an Anti-Matter Bomb design (the number of Drakes to Stormgulls built would eventually get up above 2:1) while my latest and greatest fighter had room for ... TWO NPGs! They miniaturize much better than the other shield-halving weapons (which are mostly junk for that reason) and don't really go obsolete until the enemy starts equipping their ships with Class 6 shields. For that matter, they can at least sometimes do damage through any shields below class ten. Just a terrific little weapon for its size and price. Of course, once I can fit Megabolts on a fighter, I forget all about them....
