dsplaisted's Adventure 43

This is quite an interesting scenario, so I couldn't resist trying my hand at it. Here were my pre-game thoughts:

In the early game, food is normally the most important resource, and you usually start with one or two food bonus resources. In this game I do start with a bunch of food resources, but they actually serve as commerce/research bonuses, and my citizens have to eat minerals to grow. So early growth will probably be slower. However, once I get bronze working I will be able to use forest chops to grow my cities.

Once I get my food resources hooked up, I expect my research will be temporarily quite strong. Afterwards it will start to slow down, since I won't have cottage growth to keep it increasing. So I may aim for a specialist or "hammer" economy. The "hammer" economy is actually a commerce economy, where I will build cottages and then use their production to build research in my cities. It sure does get confusing talking about the resources when they are switched! smile

I founded my capital of ChironBetaPrime in place, and went worker first, with a tech path of Mining, Bronze Working, Hunting, The Wheel, Pottery.

I saw that Elizabeth had two scouts running around on turn 10, so I thought perhaps her capital would be unprotected, so I declared war on her. Unfortunately she did have a warrior in her capital, and my warrior came from the north so I missed out on the worker snag. I left my warrior outside her capital to choke her.

On turn 30 (2800 BC), Elizabeth adopted slavery. At this point I had just finished The Wheel, and Elizabeth had copper outside her capital while I had none. I managed to keep her from hooking up copper for a few turns, but on turn 34 she killed my choking warrior. I was worried she would build some axes and attack me, so I researched Archery after Pottery, and then Animal Husbandry, hoping to find some horses.

On turn 55 I founded my second city of Uranus 1N of the horses to the west of ChironBetaPrime. After Animal Husbandry I researched Iron Working, which revealed Iron to the east, so my third city of Lusitania was founded 1N of the Iron on turn 66 (1360 BC). After Iron Working I researched Polytheism, Priesthood, Masonry, and Monotheism.

On turn 72 (1120 BC), I killed two of Elizabeth's warriors, and captured the city of York. It was size 1, but it didn't autoraze for some reason. Elizabeth had two city raider warriors ready to attack it the next turn. I probably would have kept the city if she attacked, but she was willing to sign peace so I took it.

I finished Monotheism on turn 77 (950 BC), founding Judaism in Uranus. The first of several English revolts took place in York. I also captured the barb city of Chinook, off to the east near some more horses, cows, and corn.

I finished the Oracle on turn 85 (750 BC), and took Monarchy as my free tech since I was having happy cap issues.

More to come...
