2300
Well. This is it. The long awaited launch. Ever since the humanity found and understood the ancient ruins that told of "The War of the Gods", a galaxy spanning war that left many worlds lifeless, shattered or dust. Though it is unclear what happened to end the war, weather a mutual destruction ended the Gods' existence or a peace treaty, we shall finally reach out to the stars and step in their footsteps. We hope we do not follow them.
I ordered our first two Scout ships to search the nearby red stars, Stalaz and Primodius. The Prototype Colony ship will wait until word has come back before heading out. If there is anywhere to land at all.
2303
Wondrous news! Dispite last year's disturbing, yet not completely unexpected, report that Stalaz had many - seemingly unnatural - asteroid belts, Primodius was aptly named with an Oceanic World. Weather this world's landmasses were blasted out of existence or it is just a young world remains to be seen.
Both Scouts have been sent to new stars, red Escalon and blue Romulas.
2306
More unnatural asteroid belts, but this depressing news was overshadowed by the successful colonization of Primodius. This spurred a boost in the Planetology Research - and it didn't hurt that the government no longer had to pay for the upkeep of the Colony Ship.
2309
The yellow star Berel has shown one more planet that survived the war. But some odd news, Primodius reported a small anomaly in the sky. It seems to be moving. Is it a God, or just a malfunction?
2310
More 'Malfunctions' as I learn of a new Survivor World - this one at blue Ryoun. Both seem to be focused around Escalon. Maybe there is more to those shattered bands that I originally thought?
2313
We have finally caught sight of the anomaly. It is indeed a ship, but it does not appear to be armed or hostile. Primodius's long range telescopes were able to capture a picture of the craft.
We were able to clean up the picture to produce this image:
2316
The Planetology boom is finally over. Most all of the research has been nicknamed "The Great Farm Experiment". It is estimated that this technology raise the maximum tolerable population by about 10%. Not too big of a change, until you realize that we are counting in the millions.
I increase awareness and interest in interstellar range. Though neither Sol nor Primodius is anywhere bursting at the seems with people, it would be nice to go from simply planting a flag on a rock to planting a city or two hundred.
2318
Helos, the red star nestled in a stellar nursery, has another survivor world. Things may not be a grim as I first thought.
2320
A new anomaly has appeared. This one seems to actually be many tiny aborations clustered together. And it is headed straight for Primodius.
In case this one IS hostile, a new ship has been commissioned an is under construction. It is really nothing more than a Scout with a Laser attached to it. The pilot to command it is already in training.
2321
My... Gods.... They... They... slaughtered them. The Defender, as the new ship was christened, was hardly space-worthy, but she flew none-the-less. A few months later, she reported that the new anomaly had reached Primodius space and was headed for the planet. They (as it was a group of about 30-40 ships) did not respond to any hailing frequencies and (as the pilot claimed) attempted to ram her when she tried to physically block them.
When they reached the planet's atmosphere, huge drop pods rained down onto the young cities. They killed everyone: men, women, and children. There was quite a resistance, but it was all in vain. Some reports that the pilot was able to receive showed the aliens to be almost bear-like and to fight like the eponymous Berzerkers.
I shall reclaim this planet. Blood for blood.
Wait... What is this? An unknown probe has landed near the capital? It holds a message from these monsters?
"Now that we know of the Human presence, we will watch closely and tolerate no aggression."
What madmen are these creatures? They kill us and then tell us to show no aggression?
2324
Primodius is ours again, but at a heavy cost. Of the 28 million troops sent to reclaim it, only 3 million survived, and they were facing an estimated 16-18 million adversaries. If we are to fight them as we are now,we'd need about 3 vs 2 odds just to survive! Fortunately, the scientists have not been sitting idly by. New weapon designs for our troops are being tested and made as I speak.
2325
The scouting ships have reported a new ship, this one encountered at another survivor world - Talas. This new ship is a different color than the Berserkers. What kind of hell have we walked into?
2330
Good news from the R'n'D Department. We can now reach stars up to 4 Parsecs away. Berel shall be ours.
2334
The Bulrathi have taken Talas. From what the scout has gathered, they also have Paranar and Ursa.
2336
Working Hand Lasers have been perfected and mass produced. I have also started up both spying and Axenos-security measures for the Bulrathi.
2338
Our scouting reports show that the Bulrathi - as they are apparently called - have similar technology to our own, with the exception of seemingly stronger ship based Deflector shields and the ability to travel 5 parsecs away.
2340
The nearby white star Collassa has found itself with a bit of Bulrathi infestation. I will have to fix that, with copious amounts of troops and orbital arms.
2344
These Bulrathi are cowards. They killed millions of our own, but as soon as I have a single armed ship orbiting their planet, they beg for peace - even try to bribe me for it! It is a peace I shall not give them. Not now.
2355
We get the experimental Deep Space Scanners up and running, only to hear the last words of the pilot sent to investigate the strange green star to the far west. Even the sea of stars, monsters no man dream of lurk.
2369
I tried again, after the failure three years ago, to take down Collassa. This time, I succeeded. But, this victory shall not last, it seems, as there is a large fleet of Bulrathi Solders heading their way. Even if they do, I will send more troops. I feel that the brutish Bulrathi are straining themselves more than we are.
Three years ago also marked a new type of factory, 10% cheaper than normal.
2374
A sad turn of events: the attempt to retake Collassa after the invasion three years ago failed due to the Bulrathi having a massive ship, capable of wiping out others in no time. I have two options.
Either I copy them and build my own behemoth, which will take far too much time. Or build tiny ships knowing that many of them will die facing it and they might not even make it.
I choose option two. Let the swarming begin!
2376
Helos has fallen into Bulrathi hands.
2381
The long war has made my people weary. Even I realize I could be doing other things than making death and destruction. When Bulux next calls me and asks for peace, I accept it (along with the generous 800 BC donation). This shall be a peace fund and used to build up Berel and maybe beyond!
2382
And peace rewards me with two things. A Survivor planet orbiting Dunatis and a new, stronger weapon of war. The planet can hardly be called a 'survivor' though, as it seems to have been blasted from orbit eons ago. This produced a dense, rich crust, but an irradiated one as well.
2389
Not even a decade later, the Bulrathi restart the war. But I have not been ignoring this possibility. There are now nearly 40 of my swarming ships and I will be making more each year. Now, I can also build tiny bombing ships, to go on quick runs against their planets.
2397
Firma, a red star to east of Dunatis, is now in the Terran Empire. With little in the way of metals, this will be a weak world, but it is out of the way and can chug along at it's own pace.
2403
And the Bear's madness strikes again. They ask for peace. So shall I give it to them. And take their money, more than last time, even!
2409
I think I might like this new madness in the bears. Bulux called my up and asked if I would allow small trade envoys between our two peoples. I agreed.
What I didn't tell him is that most of our people will be buying merchandise for the sole purpose of use them as clay pigeons.
2410
Seemingly inspired by this new turn of events, the R'n'D have crafted engines twice as fast as the normal engines. Insofar as I can tell, we are ahead in speed on the Bears.
2448
I recall someone saying that one should never write about heaven unless a disaster strikes. Now I see why. Peace is boring. Bulux called me up again and asked that he and I form a Non-Aggression Pact. Since the trading business is booming, why not? Their madness seems to have calmed down.
Unfortunately, we will lose Ryoun to them. Oh well. If Bulux betrays me, I'll turn his empire to dust.
2463
Last month, an odd phenomenon was at the center of a media circus. Many unrelated and, proven through much private detective work, unconnected psychics experienced the same dreadful vision. They all described it as a thousand, thousand voices screamed in pain and then forced silent. Some described a sight like ants devouring lizards. This was very traumatizing to most and the media didn't help matters. This vision will, if you will forgive the pun, not leave our psyches for a long time to come.
2478
A new planet is under Human control: the red star Denubis. It has even less raw metal than Firma. This poor planet is in for a long wait to get it's infrastructure up and running.
2481
What a turn around this is. Bulux has offered us an alliance. I accept, but I still do not entirely trust him. I will take this opportunity to try to upgrade the fleet.
2494
A new planet, far away Gion, is now under Human influence. This has a small Desert planet orbiting it's white star.
2501
And here comes Bulux's betrayal. Though I don't have as many Fighters as I'd like, I do have enough Bombers to make a preliminary... 'sweep' of his closest stars.
2503
The attack on Collassa was a spectacular failure. Just one volley wiped out all 209 Bombers. I have enacted an emergency building of a giant Bomber, as large as the fiend the Bulrathi fielded all those years ago.
2509
Sol is burning. I have fled to escape the imminent destruction. Two ship types, Grizzly and Warbear, appeared overhead in the dead of the capital's night. They quickly took out the defensive fleet of 98 Fighters and the 10 planet bound Missile Bases with only the loss of three of the four Warbears. The two Grizzlies took no damage what so ever from our weapons!
The only good thing to come out of it was, thanks to the valiant efforts of many of the Deep Space Listeners, there is now an accurate way to determine the heading of enemy ships. A three dimensional dead reckoning, if you will. The bad news is that there are more heading to Primodius as well. Gods be with those poor souls.
2510
Maybe the Gods are with us after all. I found 2000 BC mysteriously transferred into the governmental funding. With this, I can quickly fund the Dreadnought - a massive ship that carries 127 Neutron Pellet Guns. I pray that those are enough.
2520
He avoided Berel and it's fleet (the plan was changed into a more economical choice of slightly smaller ships with just as many guns) but is heading towards defenseless Firma. I called him up and asked for peace. He agreed quite happily. I hope I can get him to agree to a NAP before the ships arrive in five years.
2523
A strange being contacted me and the rest of the Terran High Council. Grand Overseer of the Psilon Empire was his title. He claimed to be a 'brother-in-arms'. His people were engaged in war with the Bulrathi as well. As the Bulrathi spanned the West-northwest part of the galaxy, the Psilons had a fair amount in the east and southeast.
I quickly agreed to a trade and Non-aggression agreement.
I also couldn't help noticing that Psilons had four arms. Sometimes, I think the translator is messing with me.
2530
I've noticed a disturbing cycle. Bulux tends to change his mind about war each 10 years or so. He has resumed the one sided war against us. Firma will fall.
2539
And Firma has finally fallen. The inhabitants defiantly left their conquers a little present though: salted fields as far as the eye could see. Firma will not welcome them after the war.
(Using Waste as a bit of an FU to the AI. Not that it would understand, care, or really deserve it.)
2547
I have fled to Gion, the last viable world. Bulux has launched attacks at both Berel and Denubis. Denubis will salt the earth while Berel will try a risky tactic of using two different ships with Repulsar Beams to act as goal keepers so that the Missile Bases can last that much longer and the 10 Gunships (240 guns total) acting as a forward guard.
2556
With the taking of Denubis, Bulux sent a virus to wipe out all of our technological research. We were able to save most of it, except for Force Field.
2564
They will be here in 6 years. I shall not ease myself gently into the afterlife. I'll stand at the front lines and fight along side the remainder of Humanity.
2570
This is it. I can see the ships coming now. Not much time now. I've attached this message to every deep space probe that I can so that the universe can know the story of Humanity. Our rise and fall. Our joys and sorrows. Those who we called friends and those who we called foes.
May you fair well in your time in this universe.
