Brick showed up with a shock impi, this will unfortunately delay settling the spot. Dog soldier protection required. We'l have to see how aggressive Brick wants to play here, but he should now he'll be facing dogs so I don't think he'll get too cocky.
Meanwhile, some barbarians killing each other, hopefully the scout can stay out of this.

Brick was pushed back into his own land. I actually had an opportunity to raze a city of his. I intentionally did NOT raze it which went against my usual instincts. My thinking was basically that my economy is very good. Peace benefits me more than him and if it generates some good will, then great.
In other big news, Sian invaded. He really invested in this strike force. He has 5 galleys full of twice promoted swordsmen and a trireme protecting them. Unfortunately, he did not get the memo that I am Native America and swords will get trashed. He landed his forces next to my city which has more than adequate defences. I do not know the odds he would get to attack, but my city has 60% cultural defence and I was getting odds of about 76% to attack out, so his odds must be terrible. If he does not attack me, I will attack out as I have plenty more reinforcements on their way. Of course, after realising the folly of his attack (he did not see my units until he landed his forces), he has since held the turn for 3 days which is strange as he has never held it for even a day before. I do understand this though. It must be frustrating to put all your eggs in one basket then have some dog soldiers set your basket on fire and throw it off a cliff. Into a pit of spikes. And then nuked. Repeatedly. I do not know why he is attacking me though, Commodore is clearly winning if he wants to attack the leader and there are two guys far behind the rest of us. I would have thought I was the worst possible target. I am second, but big enough to defend myself easily from him.
His attack did force me to increase my military but I was about to do that anyway as the only happy resource I can even see on the map is gold and I have a forge everywhere now so that source is maximised. I have religion spread also, but I am going to be reliant on Hereditary Rule for awhile. If my land was good, I would think I was in a brilliant position to win this. It is not though. It is atrocious. I am working so many coast tiles because 3/4 of my land is desert or peak. I have multiple cities with no food resources at all and none of my cities have more than one. That being said, I have an early civil service and my capital is large and decent. Commodore will win this though. I have a big mfg and GNP lead, but his food is 50% higher than mine. I assume he actually has resources. Such is the nature of a random map. This game is great fun.

I have lurkers! Then, yes, certainly. I will take some overview shots when I get the save next. I do not have civ access right now, which is probably for the best as I am procrastinating enough as it is.
As briefly touched on in my last post, Sian, who has been a very robust turn player with no exception, held the turn for over 60 hours last turn and is now at 43 and counting this time round. I think it is fair to say that I pissed in his chips.
This particular PBEM is what you make of it. We chose random knowing it could be horribly unfair. It is. We did not know that the food would lack any food or happy, but apart from Commodore, everyone is in the same boat. I decided to have fun in my own way and Sian decided to have fun by stealing wonders from under my nose and then invading me. Now he knows his invasion has fizzled without even inflicting a single kill, I suspect the fun has gone and it then becomes a drag to play. What I hope he does realise is that he should just sail his forces over to Brick or Commodore and try his luck there. His gambit may even work. I wish diplomacy was an option as I would wholeheartedly invade Commodore also if I knew he would go that way.

Sian's held the 68 turn for 50h as well, so maybe it's not even game related.

In that case, I feel a modicum of guilt! I hope everything is well in his (or her?) personal life.

Some screenshots as promised.
I have the most land as you can see and my demographics are not entirely horrific; the food situation is far from ideal of course.
This is my chief problem:
Notice all those resources? Yeah, he sure has a lot. Meanwhile, in my vicinity:
There simply is not any food, farmable land or resources. I am competing because I have The Great Lighthouse, civil service and working a shit-tonne of coast. This is not sustainable of course, so my defeat is inevitable. The plan is to go out with a bang. I am teching, rather hastily, towards knights. In a normal game, I could then wipe out Brick and maybe HAK and possibly win, but their land is atrocious too. I think I am more inclined to invade Commodore with them. This requires boats, which is a major drawback, and I am unlikely to take any land that I can hold from him as he is winning. I cannot see an alternative path though. He is going to dominate unless attacked and I am probably the only guy that can do it with any chance of even denting him.

Is this game rolling again? What happened with his invasion force?
