My gut feeling with the map is that no-one had it lost on T0 but each spot's chance to win was not the same. There's only so much you can do with a random roll though. Thanks for making the map Ceil, we all know it's an unrewarding job. alright

Do you have the original file btw? I still had a few bits left to unfog, I wouldn't mind looking around.

Hey, I might have been frustrated but don't let my bitching make you think you shouldn't make maps again. If anything this gives you more experience for the next go round

I think beside 2mn evryone had a smaller or bigger chanse, his was 0% , atrocious land with atracious capitol.

After reading some threads I think that Commodore did the best he could with the land he has got. Really GG.

Thanks man. I was pretty proud of how I played the opening; where I really fell down was with the geostrategic choice of going after Pindicator; he was indeed a demoralized target completely vulnerable to carracks, but that ensured that TBS would pick up a few scraps and I'd be completely spread out. Better would have been to somehow remoralize Pin to dogpile TBS; a much much harder proposition, but ultimately I think the only way that if successful leads to a winning position.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

Yeah, I think you(and REM to a lesser extent) needed to dogpile me for a path to victory. Fortunately for me pindicator had a second option.

The early Colossus play was really cool too.

Catching up here a bit. I think the discussion reg OH having a good start reminds me a bit of dtay in our PB18. I think in both cases the aforementioned players had a nice start and then converted it nicely into a strong early game and position at around T100.

But the thing is that in pitboss that's just as far as you can get solely based on your own performance. In a 4-player PBEM you can impact all your neighbors and have a shot of snowballing into controlled victory. In pitboss someone with slower start can easily catch-up with better geopolitics. Especially when you have a leader target on your back.

It's not black-and-white but in pb18 dtay was a bit unlucky that he had neighbors who were willing to sacrifice their own development for stopping him (us + krovice) while fighting a war against a competent enemy (pindi). I dont know this pitboss well enough, but it seems like mackoti and OH ended up into a mutually destructive war for similar reasons. 


So.. Not saying that one could not be pissed off about uneven starts and terrible starts indeed make things harder or even impossible. But in games of this size it's rather the geopolitics lottery that you need to win in order to be ahead by t200

I think that's a fair assessment. And truth be told, I really find those kinds of Pitboss games enjoyable -- springing to mind are PB5, 7, 8, 13, & 18. I think I just had a different expectation for this game going in and that skewed my perspective.

Despite all that I've cried and moaned about this map, I'd love to play one like it again in the future. Just as long as all the players are on the same page.
