Civ 6 Adventure 1: Ituralde is Mvemba of Kongo!

This is my first attempt at making a report here on RB. It is not a detailed rundown of every turn, but I tried to chronicle the eventy for the first 100 turns I played today.

You find the pictures with Captions and explanations here:

http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561...&view=grid

This turned out to be the quickest way for me to do it, as I don't have a ton of time on my hand to do the kind of detailed reports you might be used to here on RB. Please let me know, what you think of the format.

There's some additional info for some of the turns in the Quotes below. (They were supposed to be Spoiler tags. How do I do those?)

Build Order:
Quote:Scout, Worker,Slinger,Slinger, Scout. Who needs buildings anyway?

Turn 22:
Quote:I should have been more patient and switched the order of the first Civics. Note also that Theodore is on the same continent. Also I see another border lurking in the fog.

Turn 36:
Quote:Everything is crap. There's no good locations. Well beside the forward settle towards Teddy. It gives me horses, but there are hardly any new luxury resources to be gained. I already have Gems and Dyes in my capital. The oasis city can reach for Gypsum, but gains a lot of useless flat desert tiles. Still I mapped out some potential city locations. To the north is no fresh water and no luxuries either.

Turn 43:

Quote:First worker improved Stone, Gems and the closes Rice. Second worker second Rice, Dyes and then off to the second city.

Ituralde's folly:
Quote:Remember that heavily guarded Tribal Village. I had to retreat and was surprised that Yerevans borders are closed to me. I am blocked off by a barbarian Spearman and a Slinger. The only way out is through Yerevan's territory. What's the worst that could happen. Warmonger Penalty is None. Too bad Teddy's no war agenda expands towards City States. He is not amused. Next turn Yerevan's warrior finishes my Scout anyway and I can't make peace for the next 9 turns. I'll never do that again!

Turn 48:
Quote:Still not happy with the city locations. But this one has fresh water, one Rice, two Stone and the gems on the coast. I can even build a harbor if I want to. Fresh water on top makes this the best decision for me.

Turn 51:
Quote:Meanwhile Mbanza is starting on my first district. A campus between the mountains for +2 science.

Turn 88:
Quote:Also note that I founded Mbumbi north of the Oasis. Mainly to grab the Gypsum down south, after Egypt's second city Memphis got threateningly close to it.

Turn 100:

Quote:That's my benchmark for my first game. I don't feel too bad about it and am curious what the others have acheived. I'm really happy with my Science those two Campuses are paying off. Mbanza has an additional Commercial district just south of the City Centre and Kwila is building a Industrial district right now. I put it between the Stones for +2 production. With district placement I'm focusing on immediate bonuses without worrying too much about later adjacency bonuses. Will be interesting to see how that turns out or if I'll regret everything further down the line.
Mbanza and Kwila are developing fine, although I'm running into problems with Housing. Mbumbis first production item was Ancient Walls and it's already paying dividends and will help in the coming war turns.
I got a third Scout through a Tribal Village and am really happy with my exploring. I found a lot of far away City States first and some further Goody huts.
All in all I enjoyed my first 100 turns Civ VI immensely and look forward to the future developments. Due to a vacation I won't be playing anymore the next week though.

Seems like a lot of us Kongo players had a similar general settling pattern, but the diplomatic situation was drastically different in each iteration--except that China attacking that northern city-state is pretty consistent smile

I loved how the first few turn are almost identical. Warrior goes to the Northern barb camp and gets help clearing it out from Kumasi warriors. Really eery seeing it play out across three different writeups.

I'm up to Turn 150 in my Steam screenshots. I am trying for a Cultural Victory, although I am not 100% sure how they'll work yet. I am above and beyond the AI competition already, so any victory condition should be viable by now.

And I finished my game.

Cultural Victory on Turn 226. It came as a suprise how easy and especially fast that victory came off. I am not new to Civ, but for my first game on Prince this felt way too easy. The Great People just came rolling in and I stumbled into the victory by accident. By the time I kind of focused on it, I was already too far ahead anyway. Even then I didn't push everything at it and missed some Culture Districts along the way. In the end I only needed two Museums. Being Mwemba hepled a ton though, 13 tourists were pulled in by my Palace alone!

Thank you Brick for putting this event together. I had a fun time and look forward to future games on this site. Unfortunately my gaming time is far too sparse for any meaningful contributions. It took me almost a month to play 226 turns, but I'll be lurking along and enjoying the contributions on this site!
