SPOILERS: Wargroove Universal Lurker Tread [Please spoiler tag posts]

NO PLAYERS

Bobchillingworth Edit: Welcome to the spoiler thread for all Wargroove games; please use spoiler tags for your post, with a brief unspoiled title so that readers know which game you are commenting on. Thanks!

Had to create this thread to discuss the absolute hilariousness of both CH and SD believing a concession is in order. This could still be an exciting game! I dont have a clue who is going to win this. Looks like CH has a few more units, but less income and less big units than SD. Then there is the wildcard Scooter, who is taking it from both sides.

Completely agreed. It's really neat to see how fog ofcwar completely changes a player's perspective on the game, particularly one like this where knowing what's going on is the norm.

SD should be favored at this point- he only has a marginal funding and production advantage over CH, but has significantly more heavy-duty units deployed, albeit with some being damaged. CH is almost all Infantry & Spear spam, which only gets you so far when your opponent can afford to produce a Treb every turn. CH will need to hustle to secure my former territory with something much stronger than what he has on hand currently, AND finish off scooter before SD grabs the spoils instead... hard to see how he could manage it.

Agreed. Income is very telling, and SD has had higher for some time. But I think the map itself again is partially to blame here, combined with FoW - easy to forget that it's different when you don't actively see everything.

That being said, I'm in favor of asymmetrical maps, when more than 2 players are involved, particularly with fog of war, precisely because it requires different thoughts and plans than standard.

Asymmetrical maps are extremely challenging to balance though, when all of the factions are mechanically identical. They were more viable in the Advance Wars franchise, where you could create a map where one player had a lot of of land facilities, another had fewer bases but far more airports, and a third was on an island, and as long as they had roughly equal income there was a CO which could make it work. Not so much here.

Anyone object if I sticky this as a general lurking thread for all games, with the stipulation that all game-related posts going forward need to be in spoiler tags, with the exception of stating which game the spoiler is for?

Works for me!

With that stipulation, i can actually click this post, and not be in trouble! :D
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. [Image: noidea.gif] In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."
-Old Harry. PB48.

Spoiler for Wargroove 4:

Not sure what I'd do in Hes's position... Old Harry will cut his holdings in two if allowed to push down the center of the map, and SD looks like he's going to try to assassinate Elodie (I assume that's why he built two Knights and two Witches, instead of using his funds to produce a pair of Giants to break the Spear wall). Archers will counter most of what Old Harry is bringing, but I'm not sure he can get them into position quickly enough with only one Wagon. As for the SD front, I suppose I'd retreat Elodie now and try to stabilize by spamming Spears mixed with another Treb and a Ballista.
