Galileo44's Warlords 3 Report

Section 1, the BC years:

4000BC- I take a look around and see where I find myself in this beginning of time. I decide move the starting warrior 1NW. I then move the settle 1N and settle the great capital city of Seoul. My initial research goes into Polytheism, hoping to grab Hinduism. [Image: Civ4ScreenShot0020.jpg]

3880BC- I pop a hut for maps revealing the first of my opponents: Russia.

3840BC- By now, I have picked out my first city site. Grabbing gems, two gold, corn, and plenty of grassland, it will be an economic powerhouse.

In 3800BC, I finally get to actually meet my Russian brothers to the west. Their leader is Stalin, as I offer peace. I wish them the greatest luck and happiness- unless they are the population leader come time for the diplo vote. Hehe. Note what he says, "MINIONS!"

Yay, I have completed my first goal of this game in 3560, founding a religion that will take over the world. With its founding in Seoul, Hinduism will soon branch out to all corners of the globe and dominate the world!

It appears that my second neighbor has decided to appear as I meet an envoy of the Americans in 2760BC.

2280BC- My plan comes together with the founding of my first city, P’yongyang, on the site I had indicated earlier. At this point I pull back a bit and capture a snapshot of the immediate vicinity of my civ at this point. You can see the location of my two cities as well as the borders of my Russian friends. This city will help my civ later as well by providing two early happiness resources. It is also apparent that the Russians have quite a few resources in Moscow.

The next big event in this game occured with my conversion to Hinduism in 2160BC.

Then, the project that you can see Seoul working on in the above picture is complete: Stonehenge
[Image: Civ4ScreenShot0007-2.jpg]
This wonder will help with my borders early, allowing me to use missionaries on other people instead of my own cities. Also, it would get me a great Prophet to build my shrine.

Then, in 1040, the next big thing happens, with my Hinduism naturally spreading to the capitals of two opponents on the same turn! thumbsup
[Image: Civ4ScreenShot0008.jpg]

Now, this image shows a lot of new things happening. First, the birth of my Great Prophet, and the building of the shrine in Seoul. Also, with the conversion of Roosevelt, all AIs but two have turned to the true faith. Additionally, you can see the iron to the east of the capital, and my third city, founded in the north 1S of the rice.

And then my fourth city is secured, as a chariot takes down 2 warriors guarding the barb city, Alemanni, in the south. I keep this city as it is well positioned to take advantage of the resources and terrain on that peninsula.

And, to finish off the first section of this report, I snap a pic of the capital when the dates roll over to AD. GL in one turn, and 17 Hindu cities already! I am researching at 100% with +7 gpt. Philo is due in 6

Part II, the age of Great People:

Now that the first part of the game was over, I haad to look into where I was going. I looked over my empire, and at some reference charts and I found what many found. The capital is an ideal GP Farm, and Great Scientists lightbulb all the way to the UN! So, off to make the GS Farm! First I dialed up the National Epic in Seoul. Then, when a Prophet showed up in 100AD, I added him to Seoul to increase hammers so that I could still build some buildings once the scientists got rolling. When Philo came in, I did found the religion in the back-city of Alemanni. My first GS appeared in 540AD, and he was burned on Education.
That picture also shows how most of the world is now Hindu. I was never able to get missionaries to Liz, because she shut her borders to soon, and I didn't want to risk leaving Hinduism myself. This turned out later to be a mistake.
In 620AD, Education was complete and the path to Liberalism open. However, the AIs were very far back, and I decided to push much further into the tech tree. [Image: Civ4ScreenShot0023.jpg]

My first goal was Astronomy, so I quickly teched and traded through Calender, optics, compass and the other requirements. I did make a mistake and use a GS for an academy in Seoul in 720AD, as he would have been better used later. During this time, I was running full bore on Scientists in Seoul, and with National Epic and Pacifism, I was getting 123 gp points per turn!
In 860, this guy popped out, and I saved him for the UN.
This was rather embarrassing to see, Stalin putting up the Pyramids in 1020AD! Have Representation would have really helped my research with 13 specialists in Seoul alone!
When i finished with Astronomy, I took a look at the AIs again, and their tech pace was still at a crawl. Therefore, I took a step further and lightbulbed up through Scientific Method.
Here is where my biggest error occured. I saw one of the AIs get paper, and I though that they were catching up. But instead of just ignoring it and going through the long Physics to get to Electricity or Radio, I just wimped out, using Liberalism for Physics in 1140AD. This meant that I had to slow reseach through Electricity, Radio, and Mass Media, a process that took centuries with very little lightbulb help. However, a bright spot was that on the same turn that Liberalism came in, a second GE appeared, allowing me later to build the UN in one turn! Unfortunately, I got another GE later, which slowed me down, as a GS would have helped me with my lightbulbing, which the GE was useless.

After 4 centuries of slogging through modern techs, I finally got though and built the UN with help from my two engineers in 1510AD.

During my years of research, I was asked to join in war on Lizzy, so to meet the rules, I sent a few knights to the front to pick off her units, but I was afraid to take out her cities in case my friends, who i asked to war too, might take her out. She did send a troubling stack at me once, but I killed it with some Hwachas.

When the voting arrived, it was apparent that Napoleon was my opponent. Now, this was a big problem. My pop, his pop, and that of Lizzy was more than 40%. The way to solve that, was easy, once I had all the other votes, just whip my population down. However, it was not to be. The voting came in, and although I was the victor of the secgen elections, Mao voted for Nappy!
I quickly popped into the foreign advisor, and that mad me more angry! Mao was Friendly with Nappy at +9, and Friendly with me at +12! Grrrr. I hate the hidden modifiers. However, now it was too late to break their allience, my only hope was making Mao happier, so I got communism and switched to his favorite civic. At + 14, he still wont vote for me. Additionally, Stalin began to switch to Christianity every 10 turns, so I decided to end it. I made peace with Lizzy to get rid of some diplo -s and got ready to vote myself to office. Of course, as it always is, Mao decides to vote for me in the end, and if i had starved down to very low pop, I cound have won even voting for Nappy. Diplomatic Win in 1660AD.

While a respectable finish, and a good score, I could have done much better with better planning. Had I waited to get Liberalism, my win date would have gone wayyy lowever, as the AIs didn't get it until I could have used it on Radio. My planning wasn't great, but I did alright. The ease of this game reminded me why I don't usually play on Prince.

Score:

Victory: Yes +100pts
# of AIs killed: 0*-20= +0pts
Win with voting for myself and <31% of pop: +50pts
Relationships:
Stalin: +14
Nappy: +14
Mao: +14
Roos: +10
Lizzy: -10
Total: +42pts
Final Total: 192 Points

thx for the report. That is a very quick UN victory (date wise). I like the use of the GE but it was unfortunate that you got the 'extra' one.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

"and that made me more angry!" i do feel your pain, but i have to admit that made me giggle.

nicely played. i agree on the prince level being odd. for you it felt too easy ... for me prince was too easy but that also made it harder to play well, since i didn't have my usual perspective of "okay it's time for this" "now be on alert for them to do XYZ" i was just completely lost lol. i've played games higher and lower recently but not one on prince in ages.

too bad they went all flip-flopping on you at the end, jerks. SHUT UP MAO I HATE YOU!!!

"my only hope was making Mao happier, so I got communism" that makes sense if you read it as happening in the real world. but this part sounds soooooo weird to me ... "Additionally, Stalin began to switch to Christianity every 10 [years]" lol.
