Epic 11: Compromise's Report (incomplete game)

Great fun. My report is here . I sure wish I'd had the computing capacity (new computer coming soon, though!) and real life time to complete this one....

I wrote the report in a hurry, so if you see any errors or missing/wrong screenshots, let me know.

I'm... shocked that Isabella declared war on you in 2350BC. eek I have never seen anything like that in all my games of Civ4. In fact, I'm pretty sure that the AIs are deliberately programmed not to declare war in the first ~50 turns (or I thought that up until now). The way you came back from that with not just an average game, but a strong one is extremely impressive. smile

The one thing I'm seeing reinforced in these games is just how important religion is in determining war declarations. In your game, you were getting attacked by everyone except Alex - the one and only civ that had a shared religious benefit. That's not to say there isn't luck involved - there is - but shared faith clearly is the gigantic overriding factor in who lines up with who.

10 cathedrals in 1500AD?! Impressive! You definitely would have had a good score if the game had finished. Sorry about your computer not liking Large maps; I've tried to keep the number of really big maps down, but I still want to run these kind of games on occasion. You can't really have a game with 11 AI opponents on a Small map, after all.

Thanks for the report! thumbsup

I don't mind not being able to finish a game especially when there's a natural break point to compare scoring strategies. This was a great event, and I'm very happy to have been able to compare the opening plays out to 1502.

I normally don't play much (any really) pangeae, so it's been interesting with this event and Warlords 3 to see just how important religion is.

Nice report, Compromise. Very solid game up to the 1500-ish break, despite some rotten luck along the way.

Interesting that Germany was still alive, when several others had perished. In many of the reports so far, Fred has been among the first to fall.

Must have been a very interesting (and probably "fun" to play) game.
We both had our share of hot time being attacked with our pants down smile (probably overlooking Prince AIs...)

I beat you on this point, I was declared in 2380BC, but I had a warrior defending (and another 2 exploring that manage to come back more or less in time...

Not that sure about that, in mine Everyone was buddhist (but me, pagan, and later Hatshe and Genghis, Christian) and they keep fighting each other.

I'm actually a bit relieved to hear that it wasn't just my unattended capital that taunted Isabella into attacking me. Sounds like she just had it in for the player (in other words, a certain RNG result) in a couple games. Aggressive AI seems to be providing results as might be expected.

good grief! i didn't even meet isabella until 1990 BC, and then was like "she's so close that's so weird". now i'm really really glad i didn't! she was annoyed with me the instant we met. she demanded alphabet and i refused, i think she never moved off of furious after that, but she never did declare. so very much is luck!

then again, i need the luck much more than you did. i mean no offense, that's actually a compliment! you did really well handling those wars, my gosh i'm impressed! i'd have collapsed in a sobbing heap on the floor, afraid to even look at the screen to hit the "exit to main menu" button!!!

i sure am glad you had fun smile. yours wouldn't have been fun for me! i'm glad you restarted it, it was fun to read about, and to compare with. i sit here shaking my head at the whole thing ... only one who ever attacked me was monty, that's like a non-aggressive AI game! i was scared to even open the game and start playing, but once it got going i really didn't know other folks were facing stuff like THIS! you were a trooper. maybe someday i can grow up and be brave like you. well, a little bit braver in your style. i'll never be that brave i'm sure. but i'm awfully impressed!

Thanks KMad. But read Kylearan's report to see some real bravery in the face of menacing AI assaults.

Hi,

great game! The way you came back after losing your capital so early was simply amazing! Most people would have stopped playing at that point without returning to the game as you did. Well done.

I'm also speechless about how you managed to build 10 cathedrals while having to fight all those wars. I think if you had played this game to the end, you might have beaten T-hawk's score.

I'm not sure why you got so many war declarations though - from reading your report, I don't think you had even less military than I had. Must have been religion, I guess.
