Robert Jordan Passed Away 9/16/07

I actually had not heard this news, although I admit I was wondering why no new books had appeared in some time. I read the early Wheel of Time books when I was still a boy, and have been following the series now since 1991. My whole adult life, you could say. I can even remember where I was when I read some of the books for the first time. It's very sad to have such a beloved fantasy author pass away at a relatively young age. Doubly so given that Jordan had written 11 of the 12 books in his epic saga. For purely selfish reasons, I hope that the publishers will put out something that wraps up the series and gives an ending, although we will likely be denied knowing Jordan's full story forever.

We all know that life is short, but every now and then something reminds you again of how fleeting it can be.

The word around the message boards is that Jordan knew of his condition, and was dictating plots and outlines from his sickbed to an "army of writers". So the publisher will definitely give us a story wrapup, which will follow Jordan's full story to at least some level of detail.

Myself, I stopped reading the series after the sixth novel, when we went an entire book with zero movement in the plot. My brother kept reading and kept me up to date on major developments (which took all of about two minutes per book, heh.) So I'll probably read the last one for the closure, just like everyone else.

Crap! Crap, crap crap!

That's one of the few series that I'm actually up-to-date on.

I know it drags in the middle, folks, but the last few books have been, imho, pretty good. Stuff even happened.

I was even looking forward to reading more of the prequels. frown

Robert Jordan, I loved to hate you, but I'll miss you anyways.

I'm glad it appears that the tale will be finished - I've invested so many enjoyable hours following the adventures of the whole gang from Emond's Field that it would have been extremely depressing to think that I'd never find out what happened!

Yes, his writing could have used a bit of tidying up. But in a perverse way (maybe I'm just weird), I enjoyed the multitudinous plotlines, and all the little details - the story was like a sumptuous feast with so much to savor!

BTW, anyone of you figured out who killed Asmodean yet? wink
Hawk, are you a secret sniffer? eek

By the way, have you read "Bimbos of the Death Sun" and "Zombies of the Gene Pool" by Sharyn McCrumb? Somehow, I get the feeling you'd like their punny and funny take on SF fans and Fantasy fans.

PS: How are the boys?

Never worked out why this one furrowed so many brows. I don't think Jordan ever intended it to be a 'secret'. It was Graendal.
