Adventure 25 - Doppelganger - Rodge's Report

Hey all,

This is my first effort at a Realms Beyond game. It was also my first game of BTS, as I waited a long time before upgrading:

Rodge does Doppelganger

I'm also the first person to report a game, so that's three firsts so no extra bonus "2"s!

My declared total of 2s is 40. I could have had more, but I started playing epic 15 then epic 16 and never got time to go back over the game.
It's also my first ever report of a game, and I admit to not being an expert with Civ 4. So apologies for whatever silly things I do in the game smile I also started recording the game by taking notes on small pieces of paper. As time went on, the bundle of paper grew and grew so I apologise if there's any mistakes in there. My recording of my current game in Epic 16 is much neater!

Anyway, enjoy!

I'm at work but I did scan your report ... I will read it in greater detail over the week end. You game seemed to play out fairly similar to mine - wars, wars and more wars. It seemed that the AI really wanted to expand.

I seem to remember checking 'random personalities' so that what you saw in this game might not reflect how these AIs might act normally.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Yep, lots of wars.
I had read people complaining that the AI picks on the player and the other civs don't war among themselves.
There was no problem like that in my game, that's for sure smile

Hello. I am a way too long time lurker here and now I found the chance to throw some "wisdom" from my Civving.

At first I must say I liked your reporting of the game. A lot of good info! So thank you for that. thumbsup

I share the same hate for Apostolic Palace. I usually forget about this feature in my games and than I just can´t believe my eyes what AI could do with voting tongue And yes as you wrote in the end you can defy resolution, it gives you unhappiness in the cities with the Apostolic religion, but it is often useful. And the votes came only from the population of cities with Apostolic religion, that is the reason you had just a few points. You can double your points by having the Apostolic religion as State religion.

You have had also a HUGE luck with Churchill not becoming your vassal. You will end in the war with Mehmed in the worst time! Yes, that is strange, but you start sharing both good and bad things with your vassal, I think (not completely sure). But you also was a bit lucky to end the war with Churchill BEFORE he vassalized to Mehmed. You will face the same problem, the war with Mehmed and Co.

And some few words to Military Academy. You can have a lot of them. This is not a bug. It´s like Academy from GS.

Well I hope it will help you in the future!

Thanks for the clarification on the Military Academy. I'll certainly build those more often. +2 exp is good, but +50% units can be better!

I thought that if I made Churchill my vassal, then Mehmed would have made peace with him as Mehmed was at peace with me. ie, I'm bringing Churchill into my protection and he's effectively not an independant civ in a way anymore. So other civs would be forced to declare peace and then need to redeclare against me on a subsequent turn if they wanted to get to him. I think I had a similar situation with a previous game. Be nice to clarify that for myself though, might see if I have a saved game around that time with Churchill and I'll play through staying at war with him and see.....

Glad you enjoyed the report, and thanks for the pointers. As you could tell, I'm not the best Civ 4 player out there and I've still tonnes to learn smile
