WW Woes

Heya all someone might recall the Liq name but doubtful!

BTS dragged me back into CIV4 after WL just killed my interest. Am really liking this expansion though it's never all roses now is it. smile

One major issue I'm running into is War Weariness around the gunpowerder age on. In the ill fated Boff-01 SG fighting an almost purely defensive war against sury resulted in WW ranging well over 700 in a very short time. Very little loss of life on our side and no towns lost, only those of his vassal gained. The WW just kept skyrocketing as sury suicided stack after stack of troops unpon the walls. 50+ Turns of peace later and WW was still over 400.

Keep in mind that neither sury nor his vassals had the SOZ, that was hammy's, whom sury had been in a war with for centuries. Despite all that time fighting, nether AI had WW hitting over double digits.

Just not a whole lot of solutions when teching up to rifles still yet WW is flowing in full bore. Really have no idea as vanilla was never this bad.

So honestly SOZ is just a broken wonder that you build solely for denial purposes. It gives the player no active benefit but is just crippling in the hands of the AI. Ya ok bashing the wonder, that's not too far a stretch, but is WW as a whole just broken or am I missing something.

If it is indeed not properly balanced, are the powers that be planning on patching it?

I am fully prepared to accept noob status for posting btw haha.

Cheers!

I have no idea if the Statue of Zeus will be patched (or if the game will ever be patched), but your assessment of the wonder is completely correct. It's probably the dumbest idea for a world wonder in any Civ game, ever: something that only affects the player, and is completely unfun.

Makes you wonder what they were smoking at Firaxis when that went through the design process. smoke lol

I already saw someone at CFC complaining that the change seemed to affect mostly AI. I don't know if it's really so, i am not gonna install the patch until unofficial patch for it is mature enough. lol

I was playing a recent game, fighting Bismark and he had built the SoZ in Berlin. The whole aim of my initial war was to capture Berlin quickly and then take the balance of his cities. It was a grand fight, he recaptured Berlin about 4 times and each time he did, WW zoomed up, production down. It was a really good back and forth struggle. I really enjoyed it.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

War Weariness mechanics work this way:
The player gets 100% WW
The AI gets 100% WW on Settler and 10% less on each level above;
90% Chieftan,
80% Warlord,
70% Noble,
60% Prince,
50% Monarch,
40% Emperor,
30% Immortal,
20% Deity.

Furthermore, WW is only applied to a civ fighting in a tile without cultural dominance. This means that if you have 50%+ of the culture in the tile attacked/defended, your WW will not grow.
Most common sources of WW is:
Losing units
Destroying units (destroying 3 enemy units equals losing one yourself WW_wise, IIRC)
Losing cities
Capturing cities (again, 3 enemies = 1 own, IIRC).

WW falls with 1 per turn.

WW modifiers:
Jail building, Mt Rushmore National Wonder, Police State Civic, Statue of Zeus wonder.

Note that Jail+Mt. R+PoliceState grants a 100% reduction in WW (assuming it is cumulative, if it multiplicative, it's more like 72% reduction).
