Horist Imperium 27

So, I bought a new computer, set it up and forgot to bring my save files over. I did bring my word document over, but i haven't installed office yet, so to read my report, you will need to download the attachment, and then you can read it. (Or if someone can do this for me post it that would be great.) Otherwise I should be able to install office and do this sometime this week.

One difference in my game was random events were on. In trying to find a game worthy for the imperium, this was my 2nd try, on the first my planet got an event that reduced me to about 10 pop I think. Anyways, my planet went rich in this one late in the game, but early enough to let my bombers produce faster. I was planning on replaying this game as shadow, but I haven't installed moo1 yet on this comp either.

Thanks for playing guys. I hope you had a blast!

Edit: Here is the report, so you don't have to download a word document. I know the below may look like it was written by a 15 year old, but it was me! Really! I just re-read it and was surprised at how bad it is lol.

I started looking for a map that a 1PE would be possible on. Race-Meklar, difficulty Hard, 4 opponents and Map-Small. I rolled about 100 maps and finally found one with no Humans or Silicoids (to avoid early vote or loss) and where I had several stars in range. I decided to leave events on, though the last map I rolled, I got irradiated event and that was pretty much it for me.

I started out, pumped my reserves into my planet, built factories to 200, then opened tech at 100% Planetology by trickle research. Sent scout 1.0 to all planets within range. I maxed factories. I stayed on Planetology till I got some eco improvement, and then went computers until I got IRC. I pretty much stayed on Planetology/computers most of the game, with about 80% devoted to it (slowly decreasing Planetology once I had Gaia’s and +40) and 20% spread throughout the rest and then started to focus on propulsion to try to get unlimited range. I got really lucky with events and my planet went Rich, too bad this happened after I already had 1800 factories. It should help later when I build bombers though.

Politics-wise, I eventually had NAPs and trade with everyone, until the Darlok got to big. I declared war on them, got the bears to ally with me and it was bears/me vs Darlok/Alkari. The Mrrshans were destroyed around 2500. Everyone traded worlds for a while while I just did as much bombing as possible and stole tech (mostly from my allies). No tech hits because of all the bombing.  Once I got to 80 bases, the enemy never sent ships my way again. Before that I had some problems and on one occasion lost 127 factories and 44 million lives to bombing before building merc ships to defend myself. By 2760, I had been the leader in tech for the past 200 turns and my tech levels were:
Computers-62
Constructions-37
Force Fields-32
Planetology-40
Propulsion-40 (currently researching unlimited range!!!)
Weapons-39

By this point the bears and I were owning, the bears had 12 planets to the Darlok’s 5, the Alkari’s 4 and my 1. Things had been at this dynamic for awhile. I considered betraying the alliance several times as the bears were getting closer and closer to the 2/3rds vote, but they seemed to stop at 12 planets. I was very glad unlimited range was in my tree. However, subspace transporter was not. I really like that thing. I only had warp7 and I don’t have stabilizer, so I can’t reach bases on 1 turn. I also have other problems. The Bears have a Large Design of 32,000 ships. Hopefully, I can avoid it.

After I get unlimited range, I build a small stinger design and a small bomber design with warp 7 and after having about 700 of each, I go destroy the Bear worlds around me. This allows me to get alliances with the Birds/Shifters..but they don’t realize they are next!
In 2830, I genocide the Bears.
In 2838, I genocide the Darlok.
4 years later I genocide the Alkari and it is gg.

GG indeed, Horist! Sounds like a fun game, shadow or otherwise, and (of course) well played. The bears as the major galactic power (non-Meklar division) was an interesting variation. For a variety of reasons (or maybe really just the one) AI bears in my experience tend to show up strong a lot more often than you'd expect for a "non-economic" race.

Thanks very, very much for sponsoring this Imperium. Hundreds of maps!!! Good heavens! (Many, many, many, many heavens, apparently!) Even when I sponsored my very first Imperium, I only rolled up about thirty (I think) and only playtested three (only one to completion or beyond about 2370) ... and I'm crazy!

This was an absolutely terrific game; I know I had a great time, and it seems the others all did too. And it highlights one of the best things (in my opinion) about Orion: There are many possible strategies; it's just a matter of executing them properly (and sometimes, of getting a little lucky). When and how and why you go on the offensive (and if - see for instance Maniac's Imperium 10) depends on your strategic priorities and your preferred playstyle - not the other way around. And so we wound up with five game reports that basically took five different approaches to an OPE!!! Your map choice was perfect. I'd love to see you sponsor another Imperium down the line - hopefully WITHOUT your having to go through quite so many galaxies!

(To that end, bear in mind that we now have terrific editing tools, thanks to sargon's savefile analysis and Rexx script skill. Anything you can get by rerolling the map a million times [including changes to tech trees] - and many of the things you can't - can now be edited into a starting save without gaining any other spoiler information than knowledge of what was intentionally changed.)

And to anyone reading: Note that anyone is welcome to sponsor an Imperium - just e-mail me via the link on my profile page - although Horist is a tough act to follow in this case!

Thanks Ref. I was surprised as anyone as to all the various outcomes. I thought everyone was going to go 1 or 2 strategies lol.
