Darrell's FFH Adv 3 report

Err, I won. But I probably don't get many medals.

I won't be doing a detailed report, but here are my top 10 tidbits from memory:

1. I went Worker/Worker to start, and built a Worker at my second city. Fertile land makes that a good idea IMO.

2. I was careful to only scout enough to reveal the next settling site, because I knew the AI would start doing crap when we met.

3. The Baron subgame was da bomb. I really loved it. I didn't get that much greatness, but highlights were KotE, which spead up my AV beeline, a Disciple of the Leaves which was nice for the Nature Mana, and I think it was three great dudes, a Priest, a Sage, and an Adventurer. Okay, maybe that's a lot of greatness smile.

4. Basium was seriously obnoxious. He'd roll in with waves of units, in the 100s. I found that they AI picks a staging tile and slowly moves units to it until it thinks there is enough to attack. As long as that stack was not healthy, they tended to stay in place. So a ton of ritualists and fodder troops were important.

5. Seriously, the AI was sick boosted. They were building heros, and Blood of the Phoenix and all sorts of nastiness from the beginning.

6. I built a decent strike force of very strong units and used that to circle in and raze Mercurian cities while the AI wa busy bulding up its strike force.

7. Once the Mercurians were dead, I could raze the other civs (which were pretty weak in comparison).

8. War weariness became a huge problem, to the point I went Despotism.

9. Screw the Onyx Star.

10. And screw Armageddon.

I gave up after my Baron got caught in a trap (with everyone else inside).

And it was going really well too =(

That sucks! THe Baron was actually one of my first units through the portal, I left the greater werewolves to handle the treasure hunting. The supplies were deleted of course, after I came out of initial anarchy smile.
