After playing a game with it, I almost want to try out Expansive Civ of Portugal. Even with the weakened Great Lighthouse, you can get some absolutely insane trade route value, combined with the Feitoria's cheapness for when it comes it's often a quick build.
I played Joao II of Portugal in the test for Imperialistic, but in a MP game I'm thinking Bismarck of Portugal(For better chances at TGLig) or Pacal II of Portugal(If Financial + Feitoria works on ocean, it'd be obscene possibly).
It's kind of sad the Carrack is useless, but if it's a map none too water heavy you can possibly Sirian Doctrine I guess.
EDIT: For an example of the kind of income I'm getting from trade routes: One city alone is getting 2 10 commerce routes and 2 8 ones. My capital has an 11 commerce route and three 10 commerce ones. Granted, these are foreign and in Free Market, but even domestic should be giving me cottage level routes + Feitoria's commerce boost, as long as one person has OB with me it's good for some foreign and SP will save me more money than FM gives anyway
