[SPOILERS]Will Catwalk learn how to wage war? Read on and find out!

mackoti decided to plow through my forested warrior in order to strike at my expansion 1t sooner. This means I won't have a spearman up in time. So I'm left with my Combat1 warrior (3.2 in a hill city) against his warrior and his war chariot (1.8/5). Lurkers should feel free to place bets on the battle and whether or not mackoti will attack smile I have no idea what the odds are, I feel they're on my side. If I win, I think I'm ahead in the game as my economy and my units are a lot stronger than his.

EDIT: Forgot the screenie

And it's over:

I forgot about his chariot getting a promo out of my warrior, giving him very good odds. Still, losing 75% HP from the warrior at 4.4% odds sucks smile

My one big mistake this game was not getting Hunting earlier. It would have given me AH sooner and would have let me get spearmen in time. I also should have scouted for your capital instead of getting distracted by your warrior. My feline nature shone through there frown

Thanks for the match mackoti, I had a blast! I think I did okay, and I would have felt quite confident of my chances if I'd stood up a proper defense in time.

Hi Catwalk! Sorry to see you defeated here -- the 4.4% result against the warrior was certainly poor luck. alright But the chariot would get the promotion (I guessed this the previous turn), so who knows.

Anyway, I wanted to ask about something from post #10, when you had a screenshot of Rome at size 1 building the warrior. Why were you working the grass forest? Plains forest would have gotten you to four hammers for an expansive bonus hammer (Shake is expansive, if I am remembering correctly), or you could have worked a flood plain for the same 3 (F+H) plus an additional commerce (if not expansive).

Good luck with the rest of your duels!

Thanks for the encouragement haphazard1 smile The war chariot could easily defeat me on its own, so the warrior hardly mattered.

I'm not sure why that screenshot shows a grassland forest being worked, I know that I had the plains forest being worked for the worker. Maybe I misclicked and didn't spot it. Good catch, I will be more careful not to waste resources.

What's worse about my tech path is that I could have gotten Pottery with Fishing + Wheel and bypassed Agriculture entirely for a while. I really think that would have given me the early boost I needed. Also, I could have moved the warrior back in the city earlier and bought myself that one turn I needed so badly.

I think not spotting the horses was pretty critical. Seeing them earlier could have cued you to push Hunting earlier, and even one spear likely would have made the difference.

Actually, I do know why I worked that tile. I had a chop come in the previous turn and switched from warrior to worker for a turn. It didn't matter any if I was on a grassland forest or plains forest for that turn, so I picked the grassland for whatever reason and forgot to change it for the next turn.

getting distracted by Barracks wasn't a great thing either ... sure when planing an attack i can see the reasoning behind them, but not when pressured

Yeah, those weren't ideal. My problem was that since I didn't have Hunting yet, I'd only be able to train axemen. I probably should have done that anyway, would have been enough to hold off the first war chariot and given me time to get spearmen out.

Another kibitzer remark: you'll notice in your last screenshot that your capital borders had popped their third ring, bringing the copper inside your culture. So mackoti didn't need a city to claim the copper, just a mine.
