Adventure 51: Results and Review

Sponsor notes:

Plako's map deserved more exploration than PBEM 31 provided. Thank you to the players here for doing it justice! I was stoked to see the navy battles and fully explored islands. When I considered scoring, my goal was for a competitive balance between early finish races and late ROFLstomps. I was pleased to see both obvious paths played out. Also, kudos to the new members who jumped in here!

A note about events: I didn't intend for events to be enabled, so humble apologies to those who were (repeatedly!) set back by partisans and such. Since we all started from the same save, the subset of events enabled for all of us should be the same... and it was a bad batch! Where's the horse whisperer quest when you need it?!

A note to T-Hawk:
I realize now that I jumped the gun by posting an adventure directly to the General Forums. Thank you for smoothing the edges of the idea and allowing it to fly. By rights I should have started with a proposal and we could have avoided some of the confusion and BUG mod discussion in the early days of this adventure. 10 Moderator Merits to you, sir.

Scoring:
Ceiliazul Wrote:
  • Fastest Victory: 10,7,3,1 (1st-4th date of conquest).
  • Most Elite Unit: 5,3,1 (1st-3rd most XP on one unit)
  • 3pt for earliest Great General
  • 1pt for completing Stonehenge
  • 1pt for completing Eiffel Tower
  • 2pt for using a Nuke
  • 3pt for killing the last defender with a gunship

Honorable Mentions:

Tatan: Insane Promos Award! 41XP for new units from a city?! If you still have the save, I'd love see a shot of that city with more explanation. That's not just record for this adventure, it might be an all-time record for the Realms!

Timski: Best Reporting Award! Nice tactical posts and detailed plans. You actually did C&D in a single player game?? bow I do think your participation in PBEM31 gave you a leg up, at least in pregame planning.

Waterbat: Humble Pie Award! Even though you got beat, you played it out and still reported. Lots of respect for that! Maybe the next adventure won't be 4v1. :-)

Ironstar: Mad XP award! I intended for different players to get the points for highest XP, but by rights you would have swept the podium for most-veteran unit. Nice job!

GingerEagle: Postgame redemption award! In PBEM31, you Settled on the rice and I was pretty derisive. In this game the winning team not only settled that tile, but used it for their capital! Consider your city selection redeemed, at least for a single player setting...

Congratulations, Compromise! That was a well-deserved win. thumbsup

Shouldn't Timski have 5 points instead of 2? (+3 for third fastest finish, +1 for 3rd most elite unit, +1 for Stonehenge)

Save from two turns before victory attached. smile (Don't judge my micro too harshly, I was phoning it in at that point...)

Thanks for a great game. I hope to see more adventures, or heck even epics, soon. Helps immensely to kill time on my long daily commute, and they are mighty fun to play too smile GG all

Nice work on the summary here, Ceiliazul. The honorable mentions are both a nice touch and well earned. Really enjoyed reading the reports.

And many kudos on the map, Plako. I spent a huge amount of time looking at the pre-Ironworking spoiler screenshots. I was impressed at the amount of care you must have taken to make the lands fair but not identical.
