Ship libraries

Having only recently purchased the game, I am curious whether users are able to trade custom ship libraries. Early on, a big part of the entertainment value for me was creating a specialized ship for each situation. Yet, the more I play the more I think that uploading a library of custom ship designs would be a really cool option. Does anyone have feelings on this issue?

Yet, the more I play the more I think that uploading a library of custom ship designs would be a really cool option. Does anyone have feelings on this issue?

I've found that the need for getting the most out of my current tech trumps any notion of ship libraries. I tend to add some gizmos to my ships to make them look different one from the next, so I can tell them apart easier while I play, and this too is a dynamic affair. Since it only takes a minute or so to design a ship if you keep things fairly simple, I prefer not to have a library.

In fact, I actually get annoyed at the fact that playing with different core hulls (different racial ship designs) overlaps in ship names. I want to name my ships something logical, but can't use the same name for the same item layout because I've swapped over to a different race? Bah.

Some people play Custom Race all the time and stick with the same hulls so that they can keep a ship library, one ship library, through all their games. I think the shipyard is a great feature, but the process of saving designs is poorly implemented.
