Neptune's Pride?

Neptune's Pride is a slow-paced browser strategy game. It's about ten years old now, I think. The conceit of the game is that you command fleets of starships to roam the galaxy, claim stars, and expand your economy, industry, and science to gradually conquer your opponents. Travel between stars takes hours real-time, and once per day your empire produces funds and science for you to make decisions - the idea is that it's a log-in once a day type of thing. Here's a good video overview:

And here is an after-action report from an earlier version of the game, played at Rock Paper Shotgun. So, I'm in Korea and don't have access to Civ at the moment, but I was wondering if people here would be interested in a Realm's Beyond game. There is diplomacy, so if you're the type of person who lets that become a timesink, beware! We can have as many as 16 players, which essentially means anyone at all who's interested should feel free to join! You can give as much or as little attention as you'd like.

I definitely do not want to take part in a game of Neptune's Pride but I do want to thank Chevalier for posting a link to that excellent AAR. It was like a chronicle of all of the worst aspects of our early Civ4 MP games before we figured out how to run our events: out-of-game diplomacy overshadowing everything that happened in-game, huge advantages in favor of players who had zero life and checked the game religiously all day every day, rampant tech trading propping up economically backwards empires with tech gifts, and rage-quit gifting of whole empires to third parties to spite a conqueror winning a war. This was, ummm, about the most effective argument possible in favor of me *NOT* playing a game of Neptune's Pride. lol But I really did enjoy that read and a lot of these abuses could be curbed with in-house rules (assuming they're even an issue at all now, since that AAR game was played ten years ago).

If anyone does play this game at Realms Beyond, I would enjoy reading about it on the forums!

Some of it has been fixed - you don't have to check the game religiously all day, there's none of the "ships are about to jump! Wait, no they're not. Wait, yes they are!" thrust and counter-thrust anymore. But there's still tech trading, open diplomacy, and all the possible personality issues that go with that. A lot of it would have to be house-ruled.
