My favorite recent LoL moment was a recent game with Cull where our top player who fed to Skarner complained about the "damn crab," that the "crab was up here again," that he got "pulled by the crab's claw," etc. I asked him a few times to state explicitly what sort of animal he has talking about, but he didn't catch on.
What is this tree
That outclasses most junglers, Casting its spell that I am now under? Has real fast clears, and his tanking is stunning The snare in ganks, it's like the sweetest honey, Honey~ Oh~ I'm taking this stance, I just love Maokai, from his kit to /dance If I knew that champ had so much up his sleeve I'd have bought him sooner and never leave. Yes, I Love Everything! (About Maokai!) (EDIT: I just failed at editing and I can't delete, I'm so bad! ) To add context: I got on TheOddOne's fanboyism train and I'm going to play him for a ton of games until I'm really good at him. And I can post replays already because I already got the grasp of his skillset. He's. AWESOME. EDIT: I just hit 1609 ELO!!! :D With a perfect (7/0/14) Skarner game to boot!
Finally starting to get the hang of pirate jungling (I think). Is there anything that makes GP a better early ganker before level 6 and/or Phage/FM though? My attempts so far haven't been really impressive

sunrise089 Wrote:@Seyruun - Care to give a short summary of Tree Jungling? The tree is an amazing tanky disruptor. Has a spammable mini-knockup/slow (akin to Rammus' Powerball), an utility tool for map awareness and some bonus burst damage amongst other things (sapling toss has the highest base damage of all skills in the game at level 5 providing you land both ticks of it) and a really really good snare. If the enemy has a lot of burst champions, his ult is particularly great in that case - casting that ult on your teammates as a LeBlanc gets in range or as Brand bounces engulf everybody really nerfs their damage and boosts your own. It's not easy to use it in teamfights but it's good and makes the learning curve really fun. His jungle relies on a setup - I do what TheOddOne does, with 2 finely timed Saplings (have to start throwing them at exactly 1:05) at Wraiths and then one more once the Wraiths spawn (to proc both ticks of the damage), then you go to your blue where you barely manage to get to your leashed blue golem (although you don't need a leash but it makes the thing safer). From there you kill wolves, wraiths and red buff. The setup isn't that easy to pop like Shaco's boxes in general if your teammates keep watch and if you lose the saplings then it's not a big deal other than a slower jungle and you can recover from counterjungling very easily, because of the following fact: His transition from the jungle is awesome because all you do is get Philo and HoG and then tanky/support items like Shurelia or Frozen Heart. Those aren't that hard to get and they come from components. You don't need AP. You just tank. And you ARE tanky. You snare somebody and while it's not instant like Warwick's ultimate it's still really strong and ignores things like Flash. Once you lock down on somebody you follow them and they can't move. If you couple that with Shurelias you have AMAZING initiation. Speaking of initiations, you have a snare and a knockup-slow unlocked at level 4 that you reach with both buffs really early (at 3:50, a time that's amazing given the changes to the jungle), so you can gank really well. Your snare counters the enemy Flash really well. You can countergank like a boss too because your base damage is high. Of course jungle Maokai given the farm in the jungle can't really carry with damage output and he relies on having teammates that can follow up his CC; so far I really enjoyed having him in a team with a competent carry player like PlasmaPuffball's DPS Riven, and he fits the bill of an early game jungler better than Shaco in many teamcomps (since he's a mean tank and this is what the current meta wants to see in the jungle). Feeding your laner isn't hard given your skillset. You also don't even need to gank all the time since you are a support - you don't need blue or red after the initial clear (it's especially good since the red buff applies to single-target direct damage skills now which can be a real clutch for many a laner), you don't need to get fed to get your core items - all the kills/assists you get just give you faster Shurelias/Frozen Heart/whatever making you more tanky and your initiations more devastating, but you can make due if you are underfed - which is a pretty cool perk. Oh, and also you can invade fairly well with the AoE skillset and if you catch somebody at low health in the jungle (which sometimes happens!) you are highly likely to kill them without letting them escape. I copy the contents of TheOddOne's jungle Maokai guide when it comes to runes, masteries and items. It's serving me well because TheOddOne plays a really mean tree. I'd like to be a tree. :3 EDIT: Oh, and I just noticed Alindu's post but I will get to a write up on jungle Gangplank at any other time that I don't spend sleeping. In general though GP is already a beastly early ganker due to his skillset, you just have to choose the right opportunity to make the permaslow count. In general though jungling is NOT about ganking as it seems like it is, it's about clearing the jungle and exploiting opportunities, setting the tempo of the game up. Sometimes you just can't gank without wasting time. Better to farm in that case, but do exploit any overextender that is nearby if you can kill him or at least ruin his laning. No use to stay around his lane when he is tower-hugging at 90% health, obviously. SleepingMoogle Wrote:Finally starting to get the hang of pirate jungling (I think). My attempts so far haven't been really impressiveOther than the fact that he has a ranged attack that slows, a skill that allows you to speed up yourself and your teammate, and does a shitload of single-target damage? You should not be building Phage/FM until late game. Wriggles - Warmog's - Atma's Impaler is the Pirate's core build. "There is no wealth like knowledge. No poverty like ignorance."
@Speaker - What's your opinion of Frozen Mallet versus Warmog's in general? I've had inconsistent advice on what to build into Atma's...
sunrise089 Wrote:@Speaker - What's your opinion of Frozen Mallet versus Warmog's in general? I've had inconsistent advice on what to build into Atma's... I'm not Speaker but in general Mallet on Gangplank is not necessary and if you want the Phage you would rather build it into Triforce for a completely different Gangplank playstyle (usually including Ionian Boots of Lucidity and building tanky after Triforce, focusing on high damage poke). In general Frozen Mallet is an item that's better to get for sealing the deal on games that you're ahead in because you can permaslow people and deal bonus damage to them immediately and Warmogs is for those long games where the health will stack and protect you immensely from damage. |
