Lately I find that when it comes to Akali, I either never see her ever played, or the player is really terrible at it. I don't play Ranked, so I was wondering if Akali is also rare pick in those games? Is it because of her reliance on stealth? Or a poor fit in the meta?

(Akali is never seen around, perhaps in more ways than one?)
(Thumbs up if you get the reference)

She sees some resurgence among players who play her well anyway (Westrice from Curse, ZionSpartan from TD). Her main problem is that she doesn't have a great matchup against quite many top lane matchups and for mid lane there are some other more popular picks when it comes to assassins (Ahri and Kassadin come to mind). She kinda relies on getting snowballed which happens less in competitive games ( though it does happen). She's still a good champion and can win her lane and carry, though.

I also have a question for you guys.
Today on Sullla`s tuesday night game (the one he was commentator) I was playing Soraka in bot against a lane that had Draven as ADC.
I died early on twice trying to protect my ADC by silencing Draven.
When the game was over I kept thinking, does silence even do anything against Draven. Sure against any ADC, slience isn`t that good, but with Draven in particular it got me thinking.
I mean, if he used his Q to throw his axe and keeps grabbing the axes when they return, does silencing him stop that Q from happening on every auto-attack?

Tryndamere got hit by a mix of new (released or recently-discovered) top laners that can go toe to toe with him or even shut him down (Malphite, Olaf, Riven, Kennen), as well as a bunch of nerfs. Right now he's in a spot where he's pickable, but he's just not top tier anymore, and not very popular as a result. You'll be hard pressed to find top lane picks that Tryndamere does well against nowadays, that's all.
Also you shouldn't give a flying feather about picks at your Elo, as long as you like the champion you can make everything workable into high Elo, and at the level of play you probably are at, there's no such thing as a "counterpick" and matchups are won by skill alone. At 1200 Elo you can easily pick Amumu into Janna and crush everyone with initiations if you know what you are doing. I know I did.

I'm fairly sure that if he catches the axe, he will throw it again on the next auto-attack without the player needing to recast it. So silencing him won't prevent him from reusing the spinning axes; it would still keep him from using his other skills though.

This is correct. It stops him using his W, which refreshes every time he catches an axe, I think. But it won't stop the axes themselves.

Draven was free recently. He can do a stupid amount of damage quickly. I expect he will get hit by the nerf hammer at some point.
According to the latest patch notes, Janna is getting nerfed crazy hard, and Alistar and Soraka are eating it too. Does Riot want to remove supports from the game? Already most people hate playing them, and then you go and make them even less influential? Seems like a really stupid decision to me.
Also, Shen gets his second nerf in the past 2-3 patches.

Yes. While in general I have to give Riot huge credit for managing the game over the last year (finally releasing features, having good uptime prior to the last month, slowing down new champ introductions) they've indicated often that they 1) want to encourage an active in-your-face style of play, and 2) don't really like the support meta.

He has to do high damage to be good- not only does he need to move to where the axes will land instead of where is actually better to move, but he has short range. If they hit his damage he simply won't be worth playing.
