League of Legends General Discussion Thread

Hey folks. If you're looking for a Multiplayer game to try while waiting for Civ5 to come out, why not try League of Legends? It's a free player vs. player game that pits teams of five against one another. Speaker got me into this game, and there's a bunch of Civ4 MP veterans (Mookie, Metallian, Atlas) who join us for games pretty regularly. We're still waiting for sunrise to join in, the latecomer. :neenernee

I mentioned this on my website last week, but no one seemed particularly interested. So I'm upping the ante here and posting a video of a game that I played yesterday, in three parts over at youTube:

I've done the commentary assuming no knowledge of the game, so you can see how a typical game plays out. League of Legends is a very tactical game, one that rewards patience and intelligent play over running around the map like a doofus. It's really great when played with friends... not so great when played with random online schmuks who will blame you for their own mistakes. So let's "Find Some Friends" (eh Speaker?) and see if anyone here would be interested in playing this game. Did I mention again that the game is free to play?

No, this was not an advertisement posted by a spambot. I think some of you would find this game to be a lot of fun, and we can use some more online teammates.

Until they went and banned all South East Asians from their servers, i was playing this as well. But unfortunately, that happened, and thus I'm screwed. It's a really good game though.

I have a couple RL friends from school that tried to rope me into this recently.

Its a sign. If Realms Beyond says so too, I might as well join into this game.

Anyone up to play against a total noob whos vast experience covers trying not to yawn at his friends when they obsessively play it?

Given that it's Free-to-Play, why'd they do that? Normally a company cites rampant piracy as their reason, but that doesn't seem to apply here...

Well, not exactly banned, but they thought to make another server for us South East Asians, and well, we were playing so long on the US server we kinda lost all our friends. Not to mention that the host here sucks and updates like 6 months after schedule...

Do play the Tutorial first before doing anything else. It only takes 5 minutes and it helps get some of the basics down.

I only watched a little bit of the first link and immediately thought of the Rival Nations Mod in warcraft 3...you mentioned some other mod Sullla but I've never played that one...anyways I still play rival nations with a couple friends so maybe I'll check this out sometime soon...

It's heavily based off a Warcraft III mod called DoTA. Defence of the Ancients. I used to play that.. but the community was awful. I basically only do it over lan with friends now (and not for a while either).

I've looked at League of Legends but I can't run it properly. Soon as I get a new PC I'll give it another look.
