I went ahead and sent the CFC draft:
RB Wrote:Caledorn,
Well I guess making new contacts come in pairs, because we just met the Spanish team this turn. We stumbled upon their (well-promoted!) Impi near the floodplains to your east. That's sort of a threatening position to just sit fortified, so I hope they aren't causing you any trouble. I'm about to initiate contact with them and see where things go. Do they seem comfortable communicating in English? I ask because we have a couple Spanish speakers on our team, and I'm not sure if I should be drafting them into duty or not.
If you could give directions towards UCiv, that would actually be great. Whether we seek out the Spanish borders or attempt to meet UCiv next is something our team is still in the process of deciding, but any directions you could provide would be super helpful.
Please extend a hearty welcome to your chariot that has reached our borders! You'll be happy to know that the inside of our land is currently free of barbarians (knock on wood), so he should be very safe. We would be happy to direct you to CivPlayers if you'd like - you can get there pretty quick on our road network headed west. If you want more specific directions, let me know and I'll get those to you.
Thanks,
scooter - Team RB

Directions to UCiv:
Chat with CFC Wrote:Caledorn: if these screenshots I am looking at are the correct ones, your scout should be near a small mountain range
scooter right
yes, east of raj, north of what looks like "lane"
might have the name wrong but it looks like lane
Caledorn: that would be Lana
scooter ah
yeah. that's the one
Caledorn: UCiv should be found 6-9 tiles north of you then, based on where your angle of travel is
should be lots of jungle in between us and UCiv
I thought I'd say that right away, just so that's out of the way, in case getting a proper response out takes some time
scooter ok great, thanks!
Caledorn: my pleasure

Greetings from Realms Beyond! It's nice to finally meet you! We have had contact with CFC for a long time so we have known about your team, but our early scouting was slowed by barbarians so it has taken us until now to meet you. We have met your team, CFC, WPC, German Team, and CivPlayers. Have you met anyone else? If you would like to share a description of your surroundings, we would be happy to tell you about our neighbors too.
I'm looking forward to getting to know your team. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you out! We do have players proficient in both Spanish and English, so let us know if you prefer that we use Spanish.
Thank you,
scooter - Team RB

Quote:Hi Scooter,
We hope your dealings with Spanish Poly have started off well. I think they're pretty good with English, since they always send us messages in English.
I'm not sure where CFC Welcome Wagon went, but the way to Uciv is mostly fogged and through the jungle. There's about four solid tiles of jungle and then you'll hit their southern borders. They're using an "Asterix the Gaul" theme.
We'd appreciate directions around your western lake to CivPlayers. We look forward to meeting them soon.

Regarding our Open Borders agreement, it seems that factions in our government do not see any advantage in signing it.
Perhaps we can find a mutually beneficial agreement that can help me shut them up? At least for the time being.
What do you think?
Sincerely yours,

WePlayCiv Wrote:Hello scooter and Team RB,
Our builders have done some serious number crunching and planning.
According to their calculations, getting the necessary tech for catapults and reserving a building time for suitable amount of cats, supported by army of other military units, would put the start of the offensive at about turn 150.
That would be just the time-point of your end of NAP with the Incan nation.
So, because of that we would like to officially propose a joint attack plan to divide the Incan nation between our countries.
In order to keep the Incan nation from guessing our intention of attacking with catapults, we have stopped aggressions for now.
The plan:
- WPC will research the necessary tech for catapults, and then proceed to build large enough amount of catapults for both attacking teams.
- RB will research and build up their army as they see fit for the attack on the Incan nation.
- The amount of catapults built by WPC will be divided equally between the RB-Inca and WPC-Inca fronts, so plan your army size and composition accordingly.
- The Incan lands would be divided between the RB and WPC in a robust manner taking the positions of our nations into account. (i.e. RB would get the southern cities, WPC would get the northern cities -- regardless of the city size) We have no desire to quarrel over few tiles.
Those are the main points that determine the objectives of our joit offence.
More detailed planning would be done about the timings and the attack paths of our armies.
Also the "shipment" of catapults needs to be planned carefully so that it doesn't raise suspicions.
Our entire team is enthusiastic about this possible joint offesive,
and we see it as a great opportunity to make our teams a force that will stand the test of time until the endgame.
I ask you to consider this plan, raise any questions that you might have and give your official answer.
As this would be rather long term project, we would prefer a official commitment.
Naturally, turn 150 is still quite far away, so take your time to think about this proposal (but not too long ... lol).

Well, our Open Borders offer stands. We now have a trade route connection to you, so if you sign OB you will immediately get foreign trade route income from us. We are willing to sign a no-scouting clause if that makes Open Borders more attractive to you.
Otherwise, it's unclear what kind of agreement you are seeking. We've made offers that you don't seem to like, how about you tell us what you want instead?
Thanks,

CivPlayers Wrote:Greetings scooter,
Thank you for the quick answer. First of all I'd like to clarify what Open Borders means from our point of view so we can avoid serious diplomatic problems caused by a simple misunderstanding. We think that Open Borders is a commercial agreement only and does not include Right of Passage. That is a separate agreement and can be discussed each time when needed.
I'll be honest with you, my collegues fear that you would gain a lot more than us from this agreement, so they are reluctant about signing it. Maybe some production hammers will make your offer much more attractive? As for what to put them into, I don't think our War Ministery would mind having a tank. You have teched till tanks, haven't you?
I wish you a very nice day!
Best regards,

First, I agree that Right of Passage is an issue that can be separately discussed. I'm going to assume in our conversation that Open Borders is strictly for routes, and we can deal with Right of Passage later if we want.
Our players have estimated that we will actually not benefit any more than you will. The reason for this is we are about to connect a route with a couple other teams too, so a lot of our routes will be taken up by other teams. Yes, we would certainly profit a little extra from routes to some of your bigger cities, but a lot of our routes will come from other teams too. This means our position is that we would rather not pay for trade routes to you. Besides, you will have to wait quite a long time for that tank . If you have a concrete, reasonable suggestion, I am always willing to listen, but we don't think paying a large amount of hammers for routes is really necessary right now when we can just get them elsewhere.
I don't want to totally shut things down though, so how about we consider a simple border agreement? I think we have a well-defined border between us, and I'd like it if we could keep it that way. I would propose that neither of us settle any more cities between our borders. There are a few dead tiles between us, but they would be very weak cities, and it would only strain our relationship. I think it's best we both just maintain this border and settle elsewhere. Are you interested in agreeing to this?
Thanks,
