[SPOILERS] Team EggHeads: DMOC and TeddyKGB (Now Lurker-Friendly!)

From Blame Caledorn:

Quote:I finally chatted with Asterix today. Rome says they will be attacking soon with praets, but claims they have not settled on a target yet. According to Asterix, Rome will agree to target India if both of you + Asterix agree to a coalition against India, so you all fight together. In addition, they want land concessions from us.

What do you guys think? I would need to discuss with Caledorn, but in theory I am willing to give a favorable land agreement to Rome in exchange for them sending armies against India instead of any of our teams. Would you be willing to work with Rome and Ottomans against India?

I think that together we can hold off any attack from Rome without needing to agree to this, but this might be the cheapest way to protect ourselves from praets. I am going to try sending another email to Rome to see if I can get more information from them about what type of land concessions they want.

I'm attaching pictures from this turn.

This is Teddy's response

Quote:Hi,

To tell the truth, I don't like this deal.
- I dont like our teams diplo go through 3rd party, who has lowest military and tech like crazy atm. Asterix got CoL last turn, building wealth, not units
- Howewer Rome is strong, we should be able to defend from it and maybe split his land 3way later. If we all 3 keep working together.
- I have my suspicions GG and MM just decide to work together before game started. GG wont play for win, they will play for MM win. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

Saying all this, Rome moved chariot from Antium. He scout our forces (#2 now, but far beyond Rome's power). Still no roading toward us and no sign of stack of Praets.

We need some intel on Iron city. Could you look at it, Dinos?

Here is Antium from last turn.

[pic removed]

There is sentry chariot under our chariot.
We have visual on Rome's tech now, ty guys for telling us Rome's tech before.

Damn, I wanna raze Antium somehow soon.

Anyone find Rome's SoD?

From Asterix:
Quote:Hi DMOC,

We are relatively close up North and I thought you could send us unit on a galley. Yuufo seems to avoid coastal cities and I think his culture is not blocking naval passage, we could also include galley as part of the trade.

I saw your great production - I guess Moai's are part of it. We may also warm up to trading for Stone, but talking into account the geopolitics, we thought arming is most important. On the other hand, Stone is good for walls. Do you have any ETA on cataphracts? I had also interesting chat with Romans, who told me about your defensive pact against them. If you would like to chat about geopolitics, I also got some other interesting info.

BTW, do you know if Orgy has Marble? We were surprise by how quickly Suttocrats built Mausoleum and thought that somebody must gave them marble, although when we checked could not see anybody doing it, but might just be too late.

What kind of Calendar happy resources you will have for trade? As everyone else, we have tons of healthy resource, so we must have decline now trading incense for healthy.

Cheers,

Asterix

I responded to Asterix:

Quote:Asterix,

I'd like to discuss 2 primary points.

(1) We've just found out that Rome will be attacking someone soon. Fortunately, we only have one city bordering them (and our cultures don't even touch at all!), and we're about to get Construction soon, so we should be able to hold off an attack from them based on how many axes we're packing down south (and how many are heading south right now). However, Rome apparently will agree to attack India if they have enough concessions from us. While we need to discuss this with our allies, do you know why Rome is only communicating with you? Ideally, if we work together with Rome, we need a guarantee that Rome will agree to communicate with us.

(2) Related to happiness, India has offered us fur in exchange for 5 gold per turn. We want to agree to this, but at the same time, we don't want to keep helping out India if we can avoid it. Thus, this makes it even more important to communicate with Rome. (We haven't responded to India's offer yet.) Note: 5 gold per turn is more in line of what I was hoping to trade for a happiness resource. If you're okay with doing a 5gpt trade for incense, we might be able to do that (if not, no worries).

No ETA on Cataphracts, and we will be trading stone from turns 102 to turn 111 (including turn 111). After that, we are not sure how we will use the stone.

Sincerely,
DMOC of Team EggHeads

Hope that message seems good. smile I have to say, due to the lack of roads, lack of cultural border contact, and our own status as the #2 military power, I seriously doubt Rome is aiming for us. (And if they are, we've got more cities than them and can whip more axes (and soon, catapults) to them, such that we should be able to win any long-term battle, especially with the help of Blame Caledorn and Dinosaurs. And I agree that I don't want to let Asterix control two civilizations here.

So I'm basically forcing Asterix to play into our hands. Basically, Rome's got to communicate with us, and if Asterix isn't willing to trade us incense for 5gpt we might as well trade with Care Bears. At the very least, we can use the fur for 10 turns while we spread our religion around. (And once we get Construction, we can whip Creative-enhance Colloseums.) Then again, with the silk coming up for turns 102 to 111 we do have at least a +1 boost soon.

We are short on gold but we have lots of production that we can convert into wealth.

Also, now that we have Hinduism, I think it's safe to say that we should try and head to Monotheism after Construction.

Edit: Asterix responded

Quote:Hi,

I have news on Rome and I will trade you happy to counter India's offer. I would also like to discuss long-term NAP between us. You are growing very powerful and we want to make sure we will be better off with you as neighbors rather than India wink I hope you do not trade Stone to India - it can be used to build walls frown.

I will be available for chat later today.

two more quick things, sorry (then I have to log out and do work):

1. Now that turn 100 is approaching, would it be okay to have a detailed report for that turn? I unfortunately am behind schedule with my work (as usual frown ) and I also realize that I won't be able to get back to my CIV computer for more than 24 hours.

2. I'd like to get this cleared up with Asterix. Can we ask him if he and Maga are really the same person? Let's test his honesty.
Reply

Well, I just had a chat with Asterix. it went well until I asked him to verify that he was not the same person as Maga. Unfortunatelly he got mad and officially withdrew his offer to help us with Rome. frown Well, asking him to help us was never going to work if he couldn't get Rome to talk with us (note: I asked him about this earlier, and he made no guarantee, so unfortunately we can't do this) and continues to be unreasonable in his diplo.

He's still open to incense deal, but for now I actually think trading with India is better, don't really want to help out Asterix any more. He also wanted an NAP to turn 250 in exchange for his cooperation with Rome.

Interesting. I have little time now, so short report. I'll post big one on T100.

T99.

Two more cities founded.
Settler whipped in UC.
Switch to 100% for 1 turn on construction, before Market is done in CM.
Asterix send msg ingame asking 5gpt for Incense. Just to notice its his 2nd Incense while Yuufo offer us his only source of Fur. And Fur is +2 happinnes with Market.

Rome whip Antium, when turn rolls we can see Praet in there.

Okay, looking forward to the turn 100 report.

In the next few turns, I'd exercise caution and whip as many axes as seems reasonable. Here's the thing: I can't help but feel that Asterix has extraordinary influence on Rome. Why else would Rome only choose to communicate with Asterix despite them being far away from each other? (I asked Asterix in chat, and he said that Rome has limited time to communicate, but he cleverly avoided the issue as to why they only found the time to talk to him.) Thus, Asterix might make Rome attack us, even though we're clearly the worst target for them.

We may also consider asking other teams for a loan, e.g., ask Orgynized or India 100 gold now to help us finish Construction ASAP, with the promise of a one-sided NAP, i.e. for 50 turns we will not attack them but they may attack us if they wish, and a return payment later in the future.

Out of curiosity, how many forces do we have down south, and how many praetorians do you think we could hold off?

Finally, we should probably agree to the India or Asterix resource trade. I'd suggest India, since I'm not really interested in helping Asterix any more. This way, we don't need to stretch ourselves in settling far away, and 5gpt can easily be met by having 1 small city build wealth.

Just too clear air. It feels quite unlikely to me Asterix is running also Rome. Can't be 100% certain, but based on what I see in civstats and what Asterix has written to me in personal messages I'd say it is quite likely they're not a same person. I feel more likely that common language helps keeping contact.
Reply

Yeah, I never seriously thought that he was running Rome too; it was mostly just that Rome was ignoring everything I sent to them. In addition to email, I sent their players a personal message (on this forum) just asking for like a 'yes/no' answer just to acknowledge that they had gotten our message (and if they were interested), and they never responded. They've posted on the forums after I sent them their message, so I know they're deliberately ignoring us. It just seems against the spirit of a full diplomacy game, that's all. wink The optimal play for them in this game is to sign long NAPs with us and Blame Caledorn (possibly making us offer concessions to them, but we'd be happy to do that) and then attack the English team.

I also wasn't aware that there was some language barrier, but Rome seems to have understood our in-game message to them. Also, what's to say that Teddy and I can't read/write their language? (I'm not sure where they're from.) I am fluent in two common languages, for instance.

Turn 100 - 375 BC

Yuufo spread confu into border city with sheep and horses.
Asterix leave another msg asking for trade.
Rome moved Praet inland, joining SoD. They are sill not turn slider on Construction. I hope they pay for units a lot.
SutOxy connected Iron.

We are 2 turns from construction on 100%.
We also has 90h invested in Moai for failed gold.

Our forces near Romes border isn't big enough. Currently: 7Axes, 2Spears, 3Chariots.
I was thinking put another barracks in Princeton. There is some forests around and some GHills also.
Still, we cant hold full scale Rome's attack I suppose. We should rely on diplo and map, that making us not a good target for Rome.

While we are busy trying to catch up to Romes military, SutOxy and Asterix keep running away.
Nothing we could do about it.

Market is whipped in CM. We should regrow it fast and use resources deal with Yuufo and SutOxy to keep growing.
Another city will be planted on t101.

Cities.

T101.

I didn't move any units except scout.
We've made contact with Zulu. Could you send short msg to them, offering the NAP and EP deal maybe?

Okay, I'll send a message to Zulu. smile

-Don't forget to send a worker over to Orgynized (now, I think...)
-Princeton, I'd build some unit (axe) 1 turn to completion and see if we can squeeze out a barracks. But in all likelihood, we'll need as many axes as we can get.
-We may also need to whip Illinois at some point, not sure if we want another galley or not.
-I noticed from the city screen that we aren't doing any happy resource trades (?) I thought we wanted furs.
-12th city we might just call "UWisconsin" since we can't fit "University of Wisconsin-Madison" in the city name screen.
