Not to mention I tend to dislike being on the edge of a cylindrical map, just because I find it more aesthetically pleasing when my borders are together. Imagine how much worse it would be being the orange guy with the borders in four places according to the minimap! I'd go insane!

I think in general I find toroidal maps more palatable the larger they are (and the more people that are on them). When they get too small, they get a bit too confusing to keep track of in-game. At least for me...
