I think it depends on the purpose of the 'bus'.
If they were bussing him to gain deep cover for the other suspect (in this case Bigger) then I would be surprised if they wanted a claim to make it close. thestick was too suspected to likely be forgotten even if Bigger also turned up wolf yet Bigger could be 'cleared' or perhaps at least given some cover by being so 'nearly mislynched' to save a wolf at the last minute.
Its one possible scenario, and one I'm sure we've seen ballsy wolves pull off before (I think). That would also explain why thestick didn't vote for Bigger despite being around at the end as then they would then perhaps have their plans to clear Bigger be scuppered by one villager switch.
I just can't help but think there must be something more to thestick not saving himself. It makes no logical sense for him not to unless he is protecting someone else...
