The theory kind of falls apart with Novice first stating it was a day, and then it becoming clear it doesn't cover the night, but how about:

Number 1 night kill target is probably novice.
He would like if possible to survive longer to help the village
If post restricted he seems less useful, hence wolves may prioritise a different kill instead (Lewwyn for example, who has a reputation as a good hunter)
Hence faking a post restriction means he may survive the night, and does no real harm to the village


(Note I dont know thing this was actually faked, but there is a possible theory for you)

Tell me why would the wolves refrain from killing villager novice when they know that they had not given him the PR = it is very likely faked?
Why do you think that it did not harm the village? Don't you think that he would have been far more verbose and more lobbying for his suspects without it? I'm sure a novice without PR would have been able to save Sareln.
