The discussion that happened on the diplo thread between the players would have happened in the tech thread/lurker threads if there a diplo thread didn't exist. The generally offensive posts regarding double moves, clock games and what not where formally posted in the diplo thread, but they weren't materially "diplo-thread-posts" (not sure if formally and materially means in english what I think they mean). That means that it wasn't the public diplo threads fault that the game became that huge mess.
The part where players actually did banter and public diplo was fun and rewarding. Those were the material "diplo-thread-posts" and what I was referring to.
The public diplo idea wasn't bad. The players are at fault for what happened, not the settings of the game.
And I don't understand what you mean regarding a typical negative outlook on everything.
