Been playing around with my simulations a bit, and it does seem like the earliest I can get the settler out (assuming settling in place and making sure we have 1 warrior finished before settler, and growing to size 3) is turn 33, but our worker will have roaded things a bit of course.
I think we are in agreement that our starting tech path should be Hunting -> Animal Husbandry, and that no matter what we do, we should start out with a Worker. I definitely would like a warrior being produced after the worker, so that we can send him to the prospected second city site.
Just curious -- what would we need to see with our scout in order to justifying moving our settler? The way I think about it, we can (1) settle in place, (2) settle 1W, or (3) settle 2W. My preference now is in that order (i.e. 1, then 2, then 3), mainly due to the flexibility that (1) provides. Settling in place gives us the option to use Moai for a strong naval center AND National Epic to make use of a +12 food surplus (assuming we cottage all grasslands). However, if there are enough forests that the scout reveals after his first move, we should seriously consider settling options (2) or even (3), since 4 forests in our starting BFC is underwhelming. With Expansive, our chops for workers will be 25 hammers rather than the normal 20, so the future productivity of workers can offset a delayed turn.
So many options for us now.
I think it's best for us to simply wait until the game opens before proceeding with more simulations.
Also, with regards to the recent picks, Ottomans are a fairly strong civ. Many of the good civs have been used up so it will be interesting to see how the final two teams pick...
