I have to right click the image/file in my local dropbox folder, and select "Share dropbox link". Then I paste that link into an IMG-tag, and then I have to replace www.dropbox.com with dl.dropbox.com manually. Admittedly, replacing www with dl isn't a big deal, but if I have to do it with 10-20-30 images at a time I'm going to use an external editor to use auto-replace obviously...

No, it should be more simple. I use Dropbox and swear by it for civ. Goes like this:

1) Right-click picture, choose "copy public link"
2) Paste into IMG tag

That's it. If you choose "public link" then you don't have to change the URL at all.

I assume you have the pictures in the folder "public" then? Because I don't have that option at all, and nor do I have a folder named "public"... Keep in mind that Yossarian and I am sharing my dropbox space (I have a lot more space than I need thanks to HTC). I'm not sure if I can just create that folder and share it with Yossarian?
