For most games, it's not really necessary to plan this much ahead. However, these kind of multiplayer games don't come around very often, and we can't reload or use world builder, so it makes sense to spend a little more effort in planning. When we start founding cities, for instance, we should never be asking ourselves "what are we going to build in this city" because we should have that all planned out beforehand (e.g. the first 3 builds of the city, including any potential tile micromanagement).

settling on pink dot also has the benefit of maintaining all of those forests - it seems that is our plan going forward then - let's go for gold!
Given that we're already low on commerce, and the fact that this gold is on a plains hill rather than a desert (means +1 production), the gold is very important to us. As such, I highly suspect we'll found "MIT" so that it can claim that.
