Excellent news about the contact! I'm not so happy about the scout, but there's not much we can do at this point.
Her'es a revision of the diplomatic message based on Dhalphir's:
Some thoughts:
-I really hope that they're our western neighbor. This means we've escaped both Sumeria and Rome starting next to us.
-I see no reason to sign a NAP to 66 when we could do it to turn 70. Having a non-round number will only make us look suspicious.
-Do we want to ask more about the map?
-Anything else I missed?
---
As far as the turn goes, does the warrior stay fortified where he is? I think he should, as the worker will be roading on that same tile on turns 26 and 27.

Quote:Dear Maga_R of Team Margarita:
It looks your your exploring scout -- Behemoth -- just found our borders! We're happy to meet you and hope that this message can start out diplomacy on a positive note. Our team members are dick76, Dhalphir, DMOC, and TeddyKGB, with DMOC and TeddyKGB playing the majority of the turns at the moment and DMOC being the primary diplomat.
Since you approached us from the west, we assume that you're our western neighbor. (Please let us know if that's not the case.) If you're wondering, we've made contact with Yuufo and Bisons of Team CareBears who are our eastern neighbor. Your scout will have to continue going east to find them. You two are our only contacts so far. Out of curiosity, who else have you made contact with, and do you have an idea of their relative locations (if applicable)? Furthermore, do you have any early thoughts on the map? Whlie it's early to say, we believe that all teams started next to a lake, have three food resources in the starting BFC, and have a nearby source of gold. There also appears to be an extensive body of water to our north.
Meanwhile, since we're presumably going to be neighbors, we're hoping to begin the steps of what might form a game-long alliance. At the moment, we're particularly interested in a Non-Aggression Pact so that neither of us has to waste military on a (possible) early war that would no doubt come as good news to the other eight teams. Since it's around turn 25 or 26, we would like to offer a NAP that expires on turn 70. Please let us know in a future email whether this is agreeable.
We're also interested in negotiating an espionage clause: we put enough espionage points on each other to see demographics, but nothing more than that, unless it's truly unavoidable (i.e. no other option to put points on). Finally, we ask in good faith that you do not make aggressive settlements to our borders. We will return the favor, as our early plans involve building cities close to our capital. Once we have both explored the land in greater detal, we can negotiate a fair border agreement.
Yours truly,
DMOC
