I was willing to chalk this loss up to poor play, but upon closer examination it appears that the only reason Aivo was able to rip up my stack was pure dumb RNG luck.Here are the odds he had for each of the battles he won:

By all rights, he should have been throwing his units into a meat grinder, but instead he was able to eliminate my army and gain two GG's.
In my frustration, I ran my two injured cats into his stack, needlessly giving his troops more experience. Then I used my two axes to kill an axe and a chariot. He now has 4 injured axes and 2 injured impis left over. We moved in 5 axes, 3 cats, 2 chariots, and a spear. We'll be able to add another chariot next turn when the stack moves next to Alcatraz. Hopefully that will be enough to take out the city, but we might have to attack over a couple turns. I'll get pictures up later.
