I haven't had the time to read everything with care, but don't worry, Timmy. We all agreed on the course of action regarding declaring on Sweden, it's not like it's your fault or something like that. Besides, my GPro buy was a very dumb move (and one I didn't ask anyone about before doing too), since another unit would probably have made a big difference in the Sweden war, and I'm still playing. 
There's no need for us to actually win the game, anyway, just to try our best. The variant actually ended up being way more difficult than I initially thought it would be, but that's part of the fun. Overcoming the hurdles is when the SG crew really shines!
I think we'll have a window of opportunity to attack the other Civs with the Foreign Legion units, we can perhaps plan after that. If Rome doesn't like us now, perhaps we can retreat to our core and plan to attack them from there (would walls and such buildings be worth in Devotion to do that?), with more support.
