Aha! Thanks for the kind words. I kinda prefer playing by the seat of my pants so they just saved me a bunch of effort planning wonder micro really (winning is for losers).
We met on t48 (although I could have made contact much earlier if I hadn't scouted the south) they attacked 2nd half of t53. I suspect they were planning to attack whoever their neighbor was. If I'd done those player previews Commodore wanted I might have thought org Vikings would get boats out early and sentried the coast, but I'm always surprised by war when people's borders don't touch so I probably wouldn't have bothered. Anyway I'm not too cut up over not being ready, but I am worried that I'll face early rushes in future games if it ends up paying off for them.
When they saw I didn't have copper hooked they probably thought keeping the cap was reasonable. I just hope it's destroying their economy... in a zero-sum game (eg a duel) they made a great move, but I hope it costs them here. Although they're probably going to land the great lighthouse so their conquests (two cities from Dantski also I believe) start to pay off.
With another couple of war chariots I'd be confident of taking back the capital, but I can't see Gavanth allowing that.

After all, in Pitboss one should anyways play with a bit of a risk to succeed and especially in a pitboss where you very likely started with a decent handicap it's very reasonable to go for farmer's gambit maneuvers. Stating the obvious: Preparing for T50 naval attacks without realistic reasons is a losing mindset...
