RBP3 Lurker Discussion Thread - No Players!

I have to say, both Rome and Portugal's play is kind of impressive. Both teams are pretty clued in, even if they are sometimes a few days behind us omniscient lurkers. smile

So Rome whipped some spears in time, anticipating an attack from Portugal. They wisely withdrew their settler bound for the iron location. Portugal are not going to suicide their chariots and it looks like their new plan is to divert a settler to steal Rome's iron.

With all the rivers on this map one would think there is a chance of Rome acquiring iron through trade, though. Although their number of allies seems to be rapidly dwindling, with Babylon, Mali and Maya seeming to have joined the dark side. Really, the only CANT civ not already crippled or in grave danger of being crippled is Byzantium.

Oh, and good afternoon v8mark, welcome to the show.

The CAN members are desperately trying to stall tech trades and NAP negotiations with France. They don't want to outright refuse as that would tip France off that an attack is coming.

I think we've seen this attempted numerous times in pitboss games and it hardly ever works... Expect France to have some spears ready.

The stalling didn't get any easier with the current reload, that's an extra 48 hours they need to stall...

Like I said... I was going to selectively quote but it's a good summary of the situation in its entirety. smile

Morgan of France Wrote:State of the Nation – Turn 70 odd

The great and prosperous nation of Anglo-France finds its self diplomatically outcast and isolated within the known realms of the map.

We have met the majority of the CAN alliance and since being invited to join by the HRE empire have strived to meet all members and take our place with our new friends. We have recicieved little in the way of welcome and diplomatic relations with our new friends has not taken off as we expected.

There have been a few issues that have derailed the process, some under our control; some not.

1. Diplomacy has not gone as well as can be expected, some blame can be taken by myself, greater efforts should have been made rather than resting on the laurels by expecting it to be easy integrating into the CAN Alliance.

2. Our supposed good friends the Murkha of Wilem/Portugal have sabotaged our reputation by spreading rumors of us not being trustworthy and actively plotting with the enemies of CAN – we have addressed these rumors and Murkha now accepts he was wrong, these lies have spread and have blown any working relationship we could have with the CAN.

3. Krill – An ignorant and arrogant person that seems to dislike us. We have heard rumors that he does not support our entry to the CAN alliance and has been briefing against our great nation. Word has it he sees us as an expansion opportunity, not the best person we want as a neighbour.

Integrating into the CAN has not gone as expected – because of the issues outlined above, we have made plans and arranged our empire thinking we were to be assisted by the technonolgy of the CAN, the promises that were made by the HRE and the other member have turned out to be empty and worthless – leaving us stranded and backstabbed. Whilst I believed the HRE to be acting in good faith, they have not stated that the offer has been withdrawn and continue to string us along under the most false of pretences.

Our intelligence has concluded that HRE and England are preparing for an invasion, they have stated that the target is Rome, however – England will not open borders with us, they have 2 chariots between the HRE and their Wheat/Sheep city. Rome may be a target – although a paranoid person would say that the Ang-French are the target, possibility they need to prove their allegiance to the CAN and we are the perfect empire in which to profit from. HBR and Archery are both know to the HRE and English, we should expect HArchers to putting in an appearance sooner rather than later, hopefully on Roman soil, however we must assume the worst.

It's funny reading every thread and seeing how sorry everyone feels for the French at this stage :D that quote sums it up very well, thanks novice. Although I think calling Krill 'ignorant' is a leap of faith...it looks like he knows exactly what he's doing to me.

There are some very good SP players on the French team, so I would expect them to put up a decent defence and have spears at least ready for the invaders, when they come.

I will not post in any thread not to allow any team to try to guess which teams might have been concern, but I sent a PM to Muhka answering his question

Hi Mukha,

Question to lurkers: would it be wrong to attack this turn considering we didn't declare before the reload on this turn?

I don't know what you did or didn't (and don't want to accuse you of any unfaithfull actions), but that could be a subject of concern.

As long as your units are moving the same way as before, you could 'probably' be free to declare on Rome on top of that (but I doubt it would have any rational value).

Ps - the fact that some other teams were felling 'uneasy' is showing that you were definitively not the only one have 'second thoughts'.

PS2 - I am trying not to write in anyone team to avoid other teams to try to second guess who I had in mind. -> feel free to post this message in your thread from teammate/lurkers

Were you referring to France as well, Jabah? The conversation below was a bit ambiguous, but I assumed it did not involve changing pre-reload moves.

Rome (Sandover) says Portugal (Mukha) moved his chariot differently after the re-load.

Portugal (Mukha) says Rome moved first to disrupt their original movement as Rome's scouting warrior now stands in a place where their chariot was before re-load. Rome was free to move anywhere they want as they didn't make any moves before re-load.

Who didn't follow the rule here?

Let the players worry about that smile

I hope some more teams are eliminated soon so that I can start keeping up with the spoiler threads. cry

Hehehe, couldn't agree more novice smile WE NEED WAR TO CLEANSE THE FORUMS :P

Seriously though, if it weren't for your summary posts, I'm pretty sure I'd be completely lost on what's going on in this game, so thanks again for those :D

The good news is I think we're about to get a war. France is about to get dogpiled, by the looks of things...

India reckon they have a shot at the Hanging Gardens; turns out they don't, the Ottomans are completing it in, like, 3 turns.

Waiting for the game to get going again really. alright
