SG1 - Anyone still want to get better at Civ4?

Ultimately, you can do what you want. tongue

My vote is still for going west, but I was just explaining how we can make it east. Either way, make sure to deploy a Warrior to fog bust the Settler's path.

As for Magenta, if you go there, one weakness is that Copper is in the second ring... connecting Copper and Chopping out an Axe wouldn't be too hard, but we need the Monument first. Probably send a couple Workers out with the Settler (yay risks!). Put a chop in monument, connect food for growth, connect Copper ASAP and chop/whip an Axeman for local defense.

For west city, connecting copper can be done immediately, then chop the nearby forest into an Axeman for defense. Easy, peasy.

Honestly, I'd settle west first, then settle Magenta with our second Settler if we really want to seal the area off. We can probably make it if we chop Settlers out fast enough.

To be honest, I would rather we went west for copper and horses and the re-evaluated. If Magenta is still up for grabs, we have had time to set up a fog-busting net and we can build a chariot to cover the settler without impairing its movement as much as a warrior escorting it.

However, seen as my turn will likely be over before we get to city Three, I shall aim for westward copper and then we can discuss the state of the nation in the time between turnsets

Copper first, to the west. Then think about the seal. That's my vote lol.

OK well I've done the set now (up to turn 75 as the rules dictate).

Nothing too spectacular occurred.

I completed the warrior to grow to size 4, and then I started on the Settler putting 3 chops into it so it was completed pretty quickly. Thus I settled our western copper city, hereby dubbed 'Copper Central' until you guys think of something better!

We have also finished The Wheel and Hunting with Pottery well on the way.

I sent the warrior up north to explore and unfortunately he found a few barbarian warriors, the last of which defeated him cry

Luckily the southern warrior was a lot luckier and found the evidence that the 'Eastern Bloc' needed! - the Dutch border!

We now have a solid reason to block Willem in if we can. No new civilisations have appeared from any direction so its just us, Justinian and Willem so far.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are screenshots of the new land we have discovered, taken on the last turn.

The North:

Some nice calendar resources and tonnes more forest. Still nothing worth shouting about.

The cities and the Dutch border

The Reverend Doctor's Yellow dot now looks a lot nicer with the Stone! With the fact that Willem is still at one city and I have put a lot of overflow and a chop into the second settler, I really think we should rush for Magenta now before Willem has the chance. We have the Copper hooked up and roaded so we can churn out an axe to escort it if we need to.

Here is a basic summary of where everything is:

3 Warriors: 1 in Copper Central, 1 tracking back from Dutch border to the fog-busting position Whosit mentioned and 1 moving to the Grassland Hill to try and tempt the Barb Warrior to attack it and hopefully defeat it.

3 Workers: 2 improving the Rice at Copper Central, 1 'recovering' after finishing the marked chop into the Settler.

Suggested Plan: Settle Magenta Dot ASAP and then seal off Dutch with TRD's Yellow Dot. Finish Pottery and then maybe go onto Writing & Alphabet?

TT ... please tell me you realize that the copper city was supposed to be located one tile west of of where it actually is? We were using seifer's dot map, not TRD's! Settling 1 west would have had several benefits: Picking up a floodplain and a few riverside grasslands (some of which may now never be used), and, of course, being adjacent to a river, for the health benefits early on, and the ability to build levees down the line.

I also realized that we need to stop and talk about what techs to pursue. I'm guessing you're researching Hunting so we can get Archery? We have Copper now, so do we even want these techs at the moment?

We also need a new western dotmap, and I suppose better communication about these things.

I don't know what to say - I wasn't sure which one we were going with so I went for the safer option of being closer. If that was the wrong play, I apologise.

Do you want me to replay it?

I researched Hunting so we can improve the Ivory, build spears if we need them and so its quicker to get Archery later. Seen as we would be rushing down to Magenta at top speed, it would be a while before it has copper hooked up to defend with an axe/spear so if we divert to Archery at some point soon, we won't be defending with Warriors.

Well, I don't know if it was the "wrong" play, but I feel it was weaker, although I can understand the confusion since both dot maps were floating out there. I just recall several of us agreeing to use seifer's for the western cities.

One tenet of SGs is that you never replay a set. So we live with any mistakes we make, minor or major.

I actually forgot we had the ivory for a bit there. So, ok.

We will endeavor to be more clear in our communication forwards.

My own stab at a dotmap. I'm not happy with how light blue is shaping up, perhaps there's a way to squeeze another city in there?

1. I shifted Red dot b/c I don't want to lose so much grassland river, it wasn't on a river anyways, the extra hammer will be useful off the plains hill, and the abundance of food here means we should be able to cottage everything that isn't a resource and go nuts. I see this site as a commerce city. If we need a coastal production city on this body of water, I'd settle that north of the capital.

Before settling the red dot, we should make certain there isn't seafood around there, If there is we could theoretically rejigger things to get an additional (Globe?) city off the Rice/Pigs/Seafood.

2. Green/Teal dot moved to give red more room, take advantage of the southern flood plain. Potentially move east by one square to pick up an incense tiles? Those are 0/0/6 while improved yeah?

3. Light Blue is an attempt to squeeze more commerce out of the food poor area. Improved wines will be 2/1/5 for us as financial, so treat them as grassland cottages basically. I wouldn't settle this one until we could improve the wines.
