Another turn, another event. This one either does nothing or gives me a free great artist and the equivilent of 5 whips worth of unhappiness. This early in the game, the unhappiness is brutal, and so it's an automatic no. If it was my 2nd city that got the event in a few turns, I'd have to think about it, but there's still too much to build for now.
The game likes my 2nd city spot :
And demogs EoT after the Elder council is built:
Looking good. I'll hire a scientist next turn and in 2-3 turns I'll have a 2nd city and get the wines connected.
Not much going on in diplo. I've extended both of our NAP's for now, but aside from that there isn't a whole lot to mention.
One other thing, there are 1203 land tiles on the map, so everyone should have about 200 tiles to themselves. There are lot of peaks around though, so maybe everyone can have 6-8 cities or so peacefully? Definitely not worth rushing on this map.

Nothing much happened T37, I just hired a Scientist. Next turn is a big one though, as the winery and my 2nd city is built.
I'm building a 2nd worker in my capital while I wait for the wines to be connected, as then I can grow to size 6. After that then it'll probably be a scout then a couple of warriors then another settler.
Dunno what I'll build in my 2nd city. I usually go for an Elder council first when I'm Philosophical but Orthus is coming soonish, so instead I might get another warrior out.

I think I'm the 2nd to a 2nd city, the first ones being the EXP Ljosalfor.
Someone got a Great Sage, likely Irgy since he got Mysticism first and they can bulb down the arcane line.
Also winery was completed. Need to connect them to get the happiness though, that's next priority.
This is very nice. Keep in mind I don't have Agrarianism while I'm tied for the highest food count. 1st in GNP could be Lanun but for now is likely to still be the Malakim.
So what now? Well before city 3 I'd like to get a 2nd worker out (in progress), 1 scout and 3-4 warriors or so. 2nd city doesn't have much production, so I put it on an Elder council for the time being.
Tech path is still Calendar -> Education -> CoL. After that not really sure yet since there's lots of options to consider. I'll think about it closer to CoL.

Quote:Dear WarriorKnight,
we are pleased to hear stories from travellers visiting Evermore that the Elohim prosper. They report that a second Elohim city has been founded. There are also tales about a particularly wise Elder of the Elohim, who is teaching about his knowledge in a great academy.
Our congratulations,
-- Nyktorion of the Ljosalfar
Well someone's been paying attention to my diplo screen. Unfortunately for him, he's wrong about who got the GS. It's not a bad assumption to make though (me being the only Philosophical leader), but Irgy went for Mysticism first, switched into Pacifism and has probably been working a scientist since.
I'll correct him as I don't want him to worry that I have an academy. Or maybe I shouldn't as correcting him suggests that my high GNP isn't affected by a academy. Nah, it's best not to lie unless absolutely necessary.

Looking at the Demographics, Irgy has a noticeable GNP and culture boost from last turn. He's definitely the one with the academy.

Might as well congratulate Irgy on the academy.

Congratulations on building an Academy in in your glorious capital of Galvehome. The Elohim are trembling in fear from your increased cultural output.
Best wishes

Quote:Thanks. Couldn't have got it much earlier : ) I'm sure Tephus himself would be
happy to show you around the place if you ever visit. Of course for all that
effort we're still only 3rd in GNP, but I suppose it's hard to compete with
the financial coastlines and beefed up floodplains that I can only presume are
topping out the list. I notice from your own God King status that you're aware
of Mysticism yourselves so I can only imagine philosophical people like
yourselves might found your own academy some time in the future.
And congratulations to you on the founding of Glens Killybegs. You've actually
caught me right in the middle of my demographics analysis (give or take a
series of interruptions since I started writing this), and in fact I've only
just now noticed its existance. I'm curious as to where it is, but feel free
to keep that to yourselves if you'd prefer.
I have to confess my our own plans for further settlement have been moving
along quite slowly, between sages, workers and goblins defeating our warriors
on forested hills.
All the best,
Irgy Arbandi
An informative reply. He says he's 3rd in GNP, but if I thought I was 3rd in GNP at the end of my turn and he's 2nd. Perhaps he's done something after my turn and I'm now 2nd? That would be nice.
He says the barbs are causing problems, which means I can only assume that it'll be a while before he gets his own 2nd city. The only barbs I've seen are animals and the 3 goblins Irgy lead to my border, although any minute now I'll likely be swarmed by numberless ranks of lizards for around 40 turns then a 20 axe stack invades lead by a C5 Orthus, or maybe Acheron can spawn near me without the Held promotion or something like that.

Quote:Dear Nyktorion,
We send our thanks for the congratulations for founding Glens of Killybegs.
Unfortunately, you are mistaken on the identity of this 'Great Sage'. This sage has not been born in the Elohim empire, despite our Philosophical ways. Perhaps this information can help you identify who managed to acquire it?
Our best wishes
WarriorKnight of the Elohim
Quote:Dear WarriorKnight,
on one hand, we are a bit surprised by your information, but on the other hand it shows that travellers' tales are not always accurate. I currently have no idea about the true core of the 'Great Sage' story people are talking about. I can not imagine how it would be possible for any nation other than the Elohim to bring forth such a great philosophical mind so quickly* after the end of the endless winter. Still, we are glad to hear that at least some of the stories about the Elohims' prosperity are true.
wishing you the best,
Nyktorion of the Ljosalfar
* At least, gaining a great sage by running a sage in the capital that early would require any non-philosophical civ to gain mysticism and an elder council by T13 or T14
Looks like he's forgotten about the GGP bonus from Pacifism. Well I guess I better enlighten him on it or else he won't believe it wasn't me, which won't be good later on.
Quote:Dear Nyktorion
While your initial reasoning is correct, you have forgotten about one important point.
There is one other thing aside from Philosophical that affects GP rate this early in the game, and that is Pacifism. Switching to Pacifism reduces the time it takes for a Sage from 23 turns to 17. That means an Elder Council needs to be built by t18-19, a much more reasonable target.
Hopefully that solves the problem.
Until next time

Quote:Dear Einion MonkKnight,
thanks, that was a critical piece of information I missed!
At least concerning the Bannor, I can tell you that they have been valuing religion rather than pacifism all along until now.
best regards,
Nyktorion of the Ljosalfar
Well, since Religion is the Bannor's starting civic, he essentially told me nothing of importance. If it was Nationalism, that would be good to know.
t41 saw Calendar get completed. I'll probably hold off on the revolt to Agrarianism since I don't need food in my capital right now (it's at the happy cap) but I'll do it before either I start another settler/worker or build some farms at my second city.

Someone got a Prophet and it's in the log. Assuming that they got it naturally, that means that they had to have built a Pagan Temple (expensive and does nothing early) and run a Priest. I'm the only Philosophical leader so that must be painful for whoever did it. If they got it unnaturally like in an event, that would make more sense but then why didn't my Great Engineer show in the log?
My scout has been built and it'll pop the graveyard next turn.
