Assuming the map is done by the weekend, will people be up for a blitz? I'll be around, I don't have much of a time preference.

If we do have screenies of our starting position at least 1 day before we do the blitz I would be ok with that. And I probably would have time on the weekend as well.
Though to be honest, I would like more to be able to play 1 or 2 turns before the blitz. Then you are setup and really only need to move the scout and hit enter.

I can't make any promises for long stretches of availability this weekend. Sorry.

I am around this weekend but have a fair bit on. Although I don't think I will have too much trouble playing a blitz, I can't say that I will certainly be there waiting for the save all day!
I also agree with Serdoa that it might be best to play a few turns first before having a blitz.

And so begins the slow wait. I should probably unsubscibe from this thread for the time being so I don't get impatient. Before I do though, one thing I might as well ask.
In #3 we talked about the idea of pre-summoning contact with Hyborem. The condition for contact being running the Ashen Veil religion and/or knowing Corruption of Spirit.
The idea being that in single player Hyborem can't be trusted completely, but will tend to align with the summoning civ because of the religious bonus. This kind of emulates that a little in multiplayer, by the fact that a human player can still do as they please, but a potential summoning civ can make some deals with Hyborem before bringing the Infernals into Erebus. Otherwise a human Hyborem is something of a balance change because you're summoning simply another rival rather than a likely ally.
The idea died in #3, but not for any particular reason. There is a complication that once Hyborem enters the game then who he has contact with changes, but it's not really that hard to handle.
Anyway, I obviously think it's a good idea or I wouldn't be here selling it. It would give me a bit of warning and preparation before I suddenly enter the game too. Just thought I'd raise the idea, for people to vote on as they please.

I like this. It also means that the Veil player can promise things for Hyborem's support before/as they research infernal pact. That's an awesome bit of flavor and gives a bump to the summoner, which makes sense. I mean, Irgy could still be a rat (in character) and turn on his summoner, but at least the summoner has an opportunity to talk him out of it
If we vote on this, I vote YES.

I'm fine with Irgy's idea. Just remember that Hyborem is an independent civ, evil, and a demon when you play as him. Basically, go in with the intention of playing to win, and I've got no objection. Also, if a player wishes to take over the Infernals themselves for whatever reason, they're allowed to do so upon the game prompting them. In that situation Irgy will get dibs on the abandoned civ.
Is the map close to completion? I'd like to do a blitz next weekend, if everyone is around. And then probably the one the week after, and so on as long as people can commit, until we're to a point in the game where players have more to do than just move a couple units around every turn.

Oh I'll play to win, even though I don't really expect to, don't worry about that. I don't really know any other way
Actually that's not literally true, I even wrote a mini essay in a thread for a pitboss on cfc recently on the goals people have other than specifically winning - namely metagaming, placing higher and having fun. It's just that I happen to think playing to win is fun, that second place deserves to go to the person who was most likely to win but didn't (and therefore acheived only by playing to win), and that metagaming is just about winning later on (and also sucks for the most part).

Sounds sensible. I just hope their civ is in a reasonable state when I take it over. But either way I'll deal with whatever comes.

Save is out to Tredje, sorry it took a while but I felt I needed to get a couple of rounds of feedback on the balance to ensure there wasn't anything blatantly off. Good luck all!

Thanks for doing the map uberfish. As a last request: Is it possible to get pictures of our starting spots?
