RBP7 IT and Tech Issues Thread

In single player, you can actually play a turn with no tech selected. This commonly happens at the beginning of the game, but you can also induce it anytime by clicking on the tech bar to show the list of tech icons but then not selecting any. When this happens, the beakers become overflow, then they're applied next time you end turn after you do select a tech.

I wouldn't be surprised if a missed turn in Pitboss behaves the same way - keeps the beakers as overflow.

Pretty annoying...

Last night the internet went down again. I reset the Optical Network Terminal thing, which is what you do when resetting the router is insufficient. This has had a 100% success rate in the past of fixing the internet for at least several days. This time it fixed it for several minutes. I have a tech coming out tomorrow to hopefully implement a better solution. I've just reset the thing again now so I can make this post, but yesterday's history suggests it's only a matter of time...

EDIT: The turn has not rolled yet, so I've not reloaded. I think considering the extended outage it would be appropriate for someone who needs a bit more time to play this turn to request a pause. That way people can still log in and play (then re-pause) and hopefully we can still get the turn to end without anyone missing their turn. That is, if the internet stays up, which I have my doubts of...

There is just 2h in the clock and 4 people not played. I suggest anyone who logs in should pauses it until everyone has played. Especially when it is likely that the server won't stay online for long.

I'll try to play during my lunch break, if I can get on I will pause the game when I'm done with my turn.

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

I played so its just Space and Azza. If Space gets in and pauses, can Azza still play? Will Space have to unpause for Azza, or can Azza play while the game is paused? Can anyone else unpause the game besides Space? I'm not real clear on the pause function.

You're the last one left, so I've paused it for you.

I think the only issue with pausing is that if you log into a diplo screen, you have to get someone else to unpause the game. Otherwise, anyone can unpause another persons pause.

Assuming there is no diplo prompt up anyone can unpause who has a pause key on their keyboard. You can only pause/unpause from the main interface, so diplo screens popping up inter-turn are a big annoyance in non-AW games. It also means if you pause accidentally then open an adviser window you're screwed until a person comes along to un-pause for you.

Well that's what I was referring to - the beakers get put into a tech automatically when you have nothing selected, I think the leftmost one. However I didn't mention - because it's past that point - that in the first 5 turns of the game they just build up as overflow.
