I'll never beat Barry, but...
wetbandit(moist, larcenous) as Montezuma(Spi,Agg) of Japan (Fish/Wheel, Samurai, Pagoda)
Wetbandit is another of the Wonder Newbies of Pitboss Eleven; he came in either second or third there with a well-executed early rush and an otherwise solid builder game. Then he was worst of the best in PB16 after a failed rush, but I think he was probably above the Line of Shame. I'm dueling with him now, actually, he's a fair player. Not only that, he's lucked into a fair combo, with Spiritual getting a mild direct buff due to the impressive new civics and Aggressive getting buffed to kingdom come. Japan isn't much better, but it wasn't awful before, really, just with weird techs...I suspect he'll be above the line of shame in this game as well.
Dazedroyalty (workhorse, timesapped) as Elizabeth(Phi, Fin) of Khmer (Hunt/Mine, Ballin' Pants, Baray)
Dazed is a solid player who's been here a long time and is good when focused. Dazed has a multiplicity of small children which is good for humankind but bad for Civilization. He's got a good/good, good combo with zilch on the Synergy Scale, but that's fine. Khmer's UU has gone from hero to zero, but the techs are nice and the UB is heaven for OCD micro-managers who love to cap growth. Dazed will either get good results, or he won't.
MYKI (literate, jocular) as DuGaulle(Ind, Chm) of Korea (Agri/Mine, Hwatcha, Seowon)
MYKI is a very English fellow hailing from the Russian civ community, where he apparently gets abused in-game for greenness. I like him, but he is green enough to make even Captain Planet baulk. Pity, because for all the meh baked in to his leader, Korea just got awesome. The tech change means that the civ now owns great techs, an exceptionally long-life UU, and a good if not great UB. Rockin. I hope MYKI proves he's learned something.
Catwalk HitAnyKey (duck lover, HAKer) as Saladin(Spi,Pro) of Mali (Wheel/Mine, Skirmisher, Mint)
Holy jackpot, Batman! The ostensibly insane yet actually rather mild HAK managed here to luck into an excellent combination. Saladin with cheap granaries is now one of the better leaders around, and his CG skirmishers are going to be very near what other people call “longbows” defending his cities. Mints are fine, if nothing at all special; he'll still need to build forges, so he'll still appreciate them. This is very very solid, and gives him a good chance of surviving in the tight mini-area that Catwalk's preferences placed him in.
Nakor(nice, giving) as Darius(Fin, Org) of Maya (Myst/Mine, Holkan, Ball Court)
Nakor is one of the most veteran players on these forums, and a really nice guy so I'll end there; I really want to see him break through some day. Until that day...well, his combo should let him get his builder on, Darius is Darius, Maya is +3 and the inability to get choked...yeah, solid, but nothing interesting.

I'm not going to confirm or deny anything about Barry. If he's a doppelganger who wants to hide, we'll let him. At least as long as the trolling stays funny.

Nah, too obvious. I suspect Parkin is just screwing around and isn't actually Barry.
Something about the posting style strikes me as being very Bob-esque.
Plus: AFAIK he's neither playing nor dedlurking this game and hasn't posted at all in this thread (yet).
If we knew definitively who Barry actually is without him realising it, we could troll the shit out of him.
Unfortunately T-Hawk is being a party pooper and won't out him for our entertainment.

When I first read this line I read it as:

I hope same, but this game is not likely to allow sandboxing for too terribly long with so many opponents.

WilliamLP (protective, defender) as FDR (Ind, Org) of Mongolia (Hunt/Wheel, Kesheik, Ger)
William is an interesting fellow; he's the winner of PB11 by dint of grind, survivior in PB13 by dint of tenacity and remoteness, and one of the most defensive players I've ever seen. Note his analysis, “neighbors I fear”. For all that, he's a competent builder if not dotmapper, and he's running a good building leader of a pretty nice military civ. I expect him to focus on the forges, not the wonders, and handle his building well...and if nothing else, his defensive horse stacks will be phenomenally well-promoted.
The Black Sword (scary, Mack Jr) as Gandhi (Phi, Spi) of the Native Americans (Agri/Fish, Dog Soldier, Totem Pole)
TBS is the most wondrous of the Wonder Newbies RB's been attracting lately; he got pretty badly shafted by being teamed with Jowy in PB13, but he's rocking PBEM 53 and has two incredibly impressive FFH wins under his belt. How will he do here? Well, he's got King Specialist as his leader with “don't mess with us, The Civ” as his people. I think he'll place very highly, if he's able to match expansion to Gandhi's finicky bulbing powers. Good things here, folks.
Yuris125 (good natured, white decker) as Tokugawa (Agg, Pro) of the Dutch (Agri/Fish, East Indiamen, Dike)
Yuri is better than his record; sadly, he's also prone to play 2,860,021 games at once, so his focus...often isn't. He's not got a pushover leader here though; Tokugawa is easily one of the best fighters in the leaderset, and with Agg and Pro's buff he's awesome at the early economy too. He fades a bit later in the game...so it's a good thing the Dutch then bloom. Dikes are a moai in every city, while the EI is an excellent galleon replacement with a long and solid lifespan. I want to see Yuri do well with this...but neighbor interactions will determine this early on, as he is going to need to push hard early to get the most out of his traits.
Scooter (diplomat, narator) as Shaka (Agg, Exp) of the Ottomen (Agri/Wheel, Janisary, Hannam)
Scooter, the last entry into the field, also managed to land one of the best combinations. He's a good if not flawless player, but its hard to go wrong here. Synergy is overrated, but Exp makes Hannams worth building, and Agg makes janisaries much better, a UU already improved by Rbmod's slowed tech pace. He's off to a rocket start already, and if Scooter was playing 100% engaged this could be his win breakthrough. Fortunately for his rivals, he's working harder on his other “could be a win breakthrough” right now.
