Turn 105

Another city, no food first ring this time. [Image: chansub-global-emoticon-ce52b18fccf73b29-25x32.png]

I didn't see mackoti's chariot before I settled, I moved my chariot into the city. Hopefully he's not feeling opportunistic. please

Mackoti wins Music this turn. Seven attacked HAK and took a city then made peace.

HAK had a slow start because

1) He picked Spain, Fishing/Mysticism starting techs
2) Researched Meditation as the first tech
3) Built Stonehedge

If you want to be competitive in this game, pick one out of the three, or you will be too far behind the other players.

Wetbandit declares war on retep, not sure why.

I also forgot to mention that slowcheetah made peace with me, no combat have occurred. No bloodshed here, sorry lurkers.

2 more cities. nod That puts me at 17.

Greatest city in the world also. nod

To honour this moment:

Do NOT ask what song that is.

The theme of this post is capitals.

Gavagai's capital:

The Colossus gives him 21 bonus commerce per turn. It's actually pretty good.

Mackoti's capital:

It's actually nothing particular impressive.

Our own:

The Roman unique building, the Forum, is not particularly useful. Since due to the rounding, the effect of it is small. With a wonder, I have eliminated the rounding issue, still nothing to write home about.

I have fallen down to #2 power for the first time in a while. I think Mackoti have overtaken me. I think he has completed the Heroic Epic and is starting to 1-turn units. Gavagai dead in 20 turns I think.

Donovan Zoi is apparently taking over for slowcheetah. That name sounded familiar and then I remember he played in the Apolyton Demogame. According to Sullla's reports that he is a competent and opportunistic player. I think I gotta take him out. hammer

Why? Do you not see that beautiful RIVERSIDE silver and an incredible FIVE riverside tiles to cottage? [Image: chansub-global-emoticon-ddc6e3a8732cb50f-25x28.png]

In all seriousness, my capital fell to 2nd place for now.

So I finally explored the land around me.

Nice piece of land, just with one little problem. shakehead

Looks like mackoti indeed built his Heroic Epic:

I met Haram and offered open border and he declined and wants 5 gpt for open borders. Seriously? Anyone I open border with would benefit them more than me unless they have 3+ island cities and/or a size 10+ city. Hey retep gets this and now he's paying me back for open borders. I have open borders with mackoti and it has proven to be mutually beneficial so far. My other neighbours, slowcheetah and wetbandit, fails to realize this.

I'm not really sure about my next move. I would like to attack someone right now when I got a production and military advantage, but I'm worried about the possibility of falling behind in tech. My costs are massive right now, almost -200 gold per turn on max science. So courthouses sounds really good right about now. In the end, I just don't have any experience in managing a 18 city empire in the BC years. noidea I need to remember to research Priesthood before CoL for the prerequisite bonus.

Turn 111

Capital reaches size 16, I think it's best to leave it at this size for a while. Running out of good tiles to work.

Some maps from what I uncovered so far for those interested:

My immediate surroundings:

My north/south, toroidal remember:

Other players:

The other side:

Christianity was founded, judging by the score it's probably Parkin. Apparently he's also in Bureaucracy. yikes

He Oracled CoL, but Civil Service is still 1592 beakers on this map.

Seven's whipped a lot last turn. I think he's going to finish off HAK. Seven's got 14 cities to HAK's 8, so I think HAK might die soon.

Demos, I think it's safe to say I'm in the 3rd best position in this game:

Parkin builds the Hanging Gardens. When I met him I saw that he had Stone, so I knew there was the possibility. I wonder if this means Seven will cancel our Marble for Stone deal?

If he does cancel then I will build the Great Wall for the lols.

Things are look good I think, Heroic Epic completes next turn and HBR will also be in. WTF2Shens makes 25 hammers per turn at size 10, which is perfect for 1- turn horse archers. Probably build a stable there as well.

Going to keep saving gold for now, the next tech options are either Construction or Code of Laws.

Probably going to save gold on CoL for now, I do ~60 beakers per turn with rep scientists, so can't exactly do binary research.

Turn 113

Seven declares war on Parkin! I guess that's what all the fuss is about in Seven's and the lurker threads.

Is this a real war or is Seven mad at Parkin for taking the Hanging Gardens? If Seven wasn't going for the Hanging Gardens what could he have wanted my Stone for? Moai perhaps? or maybe he wants to make sure that I'm not building the Hanging Gardens. Doesn't matter, his marble helped me save 66 hammers on Heroic epic which is equivalent to 2 horse archers and a chariot.

Oh and mackoti started a golden age, no doubt with his free Music artist. I have 91 pop at the moment and mackoti have even more. If I did the math right with the victory screen, he have 95 pop.

I don't think he can get to Guilds at the end of his golden age but he can probably be most of the way there. I wish I have Ivory.

Turn 114

I settled another city, sure it's better short term to settle for the cow short term. But this is my border city with Mackoti, so I think I'd like it to be on a hill. Settling like this gives me 2 lighthoused lakes as well.

If retep decides to settle a city to steal the cow then it will removed by force. smile

As you can see I can 1-turn Code of Laws with the double prerequisites.

Demos with the ridiculously inflated GNP:

Turn 115 aka 1AD

mackoti swapped to Vassalage. I know I mention mackoti a lot in my post, but he is the person that seems most likely to win the game at the moment and he is my most threatening neighbour. I have to play around his moves to make the best play for myself.

I'm considering a golden age for myself, still debating the merits for that. I can get another Great person in 4-5 turns.
